Home network doesn't show on my pc
« on: August 28, 2013, 09:31:34 PM »

I had to recreate my home wireless network today. Everything went fine. I can access it through my IMAC but it just doesn't show on my pc when i scan for available networks. I see all the other networks but not mine. My PC is still at the same place, and it worked fine before. I did not move it, so it's not a matter of interference, thick wall, or whatever... I reinstalled winXP to see if it would change something... nada. Anyone have a clue? Which settings might be involved?

My router is a WBR-1310.

Thanks.

Welcome!
  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
  • Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
  • Input a name for Local Domain if this option available. Ensure each windows PC is set for this same name for the workgroup name.
  • Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
  • Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench
  • Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
  • Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
  • Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.

Thanks a lot!

H/w: Ver.D1
F/w: Ver.4.00

The set up corresponds to your recommendations (I don't have some of the option mentioned though).

I'm in Montreal, Qc, Can.

I see there is a more recent version of FW if you choose to upgrade:
http://support.dlink.ca/ProductInfo.aspx?m=WBR-1310

If you do, please follow this process:
FW Update Process

Set up the router from scratch after the last Factory reset and test.

Ensure your workgroup or Local Domain name is the same on all PCs and on the router.
