Uplinking to DGS 3100
« on: October 12, 2009, 06:08:57 PM »

I have 4 stackable DES 3226S via firewire.
I am attempting to uplink to a new 1 GB dgs3100
I am using Qty 3 DMC-700SC media converters attached to the GBIC module on the 3226

On teh 3226, I have enabled port 25 at full 1000 - link light is now on

I have updated the firmare to B52 on the 3226

My problem is, I am unable to ping from one host on the 3226 via the converter through the 3100 to another host on the 3100

I have disabled stacking on the 3226

Running out of options here - I need everything to ping everything

I have defaults loaded on all switches (configured an ip address for all)

I am praying someone is on the  forumn onite

Lets start by not locking down any port speeds, unless the effort is perfectly matched on the other switch, and even then I would avoid it if at all possible.

Was the link light not on before locking down the port speed?

What are the dip switches inside the DMC-700SCs set to?

you mention 3 Media converters to GBICS, are you running a LAG of some description over the link, or are they for different VLAN uplinks, or why the multiple uplinks?

What we need to figure out is if the problem is seen with the fibre run(s), the converter(s), or the switch(es), or some particular subset of your current full scale deployment.  Test each of these individually as best you can.

If you just hook PCs to the converters can you ping?
