WiFi continually drops
« on: May 10, 2021, 10:13:59 AM »

This may not be specifically a DIR-X5460 problem, but I'll ask about it here anyway.

WiFi drops out as often as every 20 minutes to half hour.  The SSID stops broadcasting for about a minute or so, then comes back.  I have a computer connected directly to the router and it still has internet access when this happens.  So it seems to be wireless and not the cable modem or internet service.

I thought it was the X5460 but the same thing happened when I swapped out an old DIR-868L. This has been occurring with firmware versions 1.04 and 1.10.

So far I've tried changing to fixed channels.  After changing several times it hasn't helped.  I researched and found the following suggestions.  Haven't made the changes yet:

-Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1492 or less (usually found on your router’s main/ basic setup page)

Adjust the following advanced wireless settings:
-Lower the beacon interval from 100 to 50
-Lower the fragmentation threshold from 2346 to 2306
-Lower the RTS threshold from 2347 to 2304

Any possibility that these changes could to make things worse?  Having enough fun already.

Has a factory reset been performed since last update?

  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?

Hi Furry.  I just did the factory reset.  Will see if that fixes.  Meanwhile I'll get answers ready for your other questions in case it doesn't.  Thanks!

Firmware and reset fixed it.  ;D  No more dropped WiFi in WPA-2 mode.  Might get brave and try WPA-mixed.  Thanks as always for your help with this..

Good to hear. Make sure you make a backup configuration to file for safe keeping.

Enjoy.  ;)
