Awesome man. Good to hear this. Let us know if you get TM going and how you configured it for others use if you will.

Hope it works well.

Works out it assigned a new IP address each time but when I use
smb://192.168.0.1/usb_A1
it keeps it even after I restart my computer.

But I still can't get Time Machine to recognize my mapped drive.

You need to set up Reserved IP addresses for your devices ON the router. That will keep devices at the same IP addresses.

I'll try and connect a drive to my 826L and see if I can get TM to see it and connect. It maybe a limitation of TM. Not sure yet.  :-\

Ok, so I attempted to connect TM to the mounted drive on the desktop after using smb://192.168.0.1/usb_A1. The drive was mounted and I could see the data on the drive. Launching TM resulted in a list of drives it saw however the mounted USB drive was not listed. I presume this is a limitation of TM and how it may recognizes drives. I presume that maybe it has to do with differences between actual physically connected USB drives and local installed drives on the Mac vs a shared or smb mounted drive which the interaction could be different. As a test, I mounted a shared drive on my wired LAN Windows 7 file server and again, TM failed to see that drive. So I presume this is a issue with TM mostly.  :-\

Hi guys! good post.

Currently, I've connected my hdd (WD 2TB usb3.0, HFS) in the usb port of my DIR-868L, and I've managed to enter to the hdd through smb. The problem is that router detects a hdd only 200mg, I think that I will have format it in FAT.

I'm going to test this article: http://code.stephenmorley.org/articles/time-machine-on-a-network-drive/

Will keep you informed.

I tried it in another external drive (160Gb, NTFS) and the test was success, but I have a question: will the router support my external drive 2Tb? any experience?

Try NTFS as well..

The last time I tested this out my 2Tb drive worked ok on Windows, however on MAC, Shareport would not work right. That was using v1.02 FW. I have not revisited this again since v1.04 has been released. I'll see if I can test this again when I get some time. Can you connect to the 2Tb drive on OSX using SMB to connect to the drive and not use SP to connect?

I've formated (NTFS) and connected (SMB) the external disk. Now, I can see all disk capacity (2T), and I can already use as a time machine  ;)

Thanks for all!
