Router is limiting my internet speed
« on: November 27, 2016, 09:41:57 AM »

Hello guys.

I have a gigabit internet and i use Dir-825ac connected to my pc.
If i connect the cable directly to my pc, i get correct internet speeds of up to 950mbit, but when connected via the router - i only get up to 300-350 mbit both wired and wi-fi.
I tested my connection with other routers i got collected over many years and connection is 950mbit so the problem is in the router. Why i don't use other router you may ask - simple, i love 825 for it's stability on stress conditions. It had never let me down, went offline or anything so i want to keep it.
I cannot find any set limits in configuration, i also had it factory reseted and firmware upgraded - same result.
I got this router from a friend who told me he had internet of 300mbit limited by his ISP, so i think limit is somehow hardcoded.

Any ideas, guys?
I really love this router.  :-\

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

If TS, QoS, IPv6 and SPI are disabled and tested the same then unfortunately the probkem is probably the code and CPU can't handle the WAN thruput speed. This model router is about 10 years old and at the time, ISP didn't have no where near 900Mb speeds for home users. So this router has probably hit the limit on the WAN side.

You can use the 825 in the following configuration with another main host router:
Turning a router into an AP.

Hello!
Also i have this problem with DIR825. Seems need NAT hardware acceleration for support high speed.
Here the DIR825 is coupled at GPON ZTE F660 in mode bridge, with cable cat6 connected direct at gpon i have 900 Mbps download and connected at DIR825, connected via pppoe settings the speed of download is limited at 250 Mbps. So let me know... this is a gigabite port WAN ?!
So,
many routers come with gigabit Ethernet ports but that does not mean that they have 1 gigabit through put from internet to the internal network. In fact, many have far less than that.
WAN (“internet”) to LAN (“internal network”) working only with 250 Mbps.
LAN to LAN working fine at gigabit speed.
I love this old DIR825, any idea for this solve this problem or the hardware really no support high speed.
Tested a lot of fw of dlink, also settings in DIR825, cable cat 6..etc etc I try test ddwrt and openwrt next days but seems need more lucky for increase this speed at gigabite.

The connection rate is 1Gb on the wan port which is the connection rate of the port and the connection at the other end of the ISP modem or ONT, however data thruput is totally different.
