Let me see if this weekend I can setup a test lab here, but certainly would like you to test it if you want.  PM me on details.  I've pulled it offline for now.

Ok, lets see how this weekend goes. I might be out of town this weekend again. I'll be checking mine this evening when I get home. I am wondering why your seeing this slow down.

This slow down is in the routers web page and Internet speeds as well? Just to be clear.

If your weekend results in the same experiences, I'll send you my info via PM. I hope we can figure this out.

Might have you send me your saved config file from the 826. Let me see if I can decypher it...I know that recently the config files aren't simple text anymore.  ::)

Yes, the symptom is always the same - the router UI and both Wired and Wireless all go slow.  You can notice the web UI taking like 7-10 seconds to change screens verse instant when normal.  Speedtests drop from 50Mb to like 5-10Mb - and that is on both the wireless and Ethernet ports.  And all it takes to correct is a reboot; then it is good for a few days (seems like about a week with FW 1.03, 1.02 and a day or two with FW 1.04) - that is the part that doesn't make sense to me.  That reboot has been a constant through all of this, not one time did a powercycle or warm boot come up in the bad condition.  I would sort of think if it was a setting issue that after all of these reboot/bounces I would have come across one time where it came back up in the bad condition.

I'll get you my config in PM and also let you know how the weekend goes.

I did setup a lab.  I have a server connected via ethernet running performance software and a laptop hitting it via WiFi running the client throughput test.  Device has been reset to default and loaded with 1.04. It has been two days and so far so good.  If nothing changes I'll try loading my configuration into it and see what happens.

Are there slightly different hardware versions of the DIR-826L router?  I see from this posting that 1.04 is the latest version, but in my router web interface, it says I'm at the latest version and my router FW is 1.02.  Is 1.04 beta?  Or do I have a version of the router that the 1.04 is incompatible with?

Rev A HW is only available at this time.

I recommend always checking here in the forums for versions of FW or the main web site for your region for what is available.

If you decide to update, please follow this:

FN,

Well as we had talked, I gave the unit to a friend to use.  I haven't spoke to them for a while but I'm pretty sure they are working (or they would have said something to me).  Now their configuration is a simple out-of-box basic outbound - nothing at all like I'm doing.  So in that kind of configuration I guess it works OK.  I ended up running a Buffalo WZR-600DHP with their version of DD-WRT - a little over a month now and zero issues.  I wish there was a DD-WRT version (or tomato version) of firmware available for this unit as I'll bet it would have fixed my issues.  I am confident there is an issue somewhere (either firmware or hardware) when using some features - but I was never able to pinpoint just where.  However every single other WAP I used in its place never had an issue.  And because I got wrapped up in this problem, I actually tried 4 different units from 4 different vendors.

I wish I could have narrowed it to something (I still suspect the connection table not clearing up), but it just got to a point of diminishing return.  It always did show the problem - give it a day or two and slowdown to a crawl with traffic drops.  Power off and on - all was good.  And none of the other 4 routers had an issue.  I can't explain it...

Having said all of that - I hope DLINK appreciates all your work on this forum.  You are truly helpful and stick with an issue - thanks for that!  And I still think DLINK's UI is as close as someone can get to a DD-WRT like experience for monitoring what if going out and coming in to a network.  This little unit, if it works for someone, is a real bargain.  But I still think there is something a bit off with the unit, as I see others having the same issue I did - and I could not replicate it with any other unit I tested.  And yet, it looks like in my friend's environment it is just fine.  Strange indeed...    ???

I think it maybe something between your ISP modem and this router. I presume that if the router is working at a different location and it works here for me, then problem is local to your set up there or the particular modem your using.

Anyways, glad it found a new home and it's working.

Thanks for the update.

Re: DIR-826L FW v1.04NA Official Release - DO NOT USE!!!

Any status on this?  ???

I bought a DIR-826L and was able the make a correct setup with a 5GHz bridge to my mediaplayer
After finishing the setup i installed the 1.04 firmware and was not able to connect anymore. I found out the 5GHz signal strength dropped, and finally i found this forum tread.

To get back to 1.02 i did:
  • Backup configuration
  • Factory reset
  • Downgrade to 1.02
  • Factory reset
  • Restore configuration
But, I think the signal strength is still not the same as before.  My 5 GHz bridge is not able to connect and with my phone i'm not able to connect on places where i was able to connect before the update debacle.

What can i do to get back the original performance?

About the update policy:
To avoid security issues and problems of outdated firmware i always install the latest available firmware of new products. But is seem not valid for D-Link. For me (at least) the 5GHz is the selling point of this router. I suggest to remove the 1.03 and 1.04 firmware from the download page since the it is suggested to not upgrade to them.
