Ya. I really think that until ISPs open up some on there connections, really anything beyond 1Gb on WiFi and Lan is just really not worth it for the average home user. I wonder if some of these products are aimed more towards business and corporations that need high speed to xfer stuff. I have 1Gb at my house. Don't really need it but the overhead is there if I need it. Still, 100Mb is good for daily home use. Bottle necks, gotta love them.  ::)

Well the AN I think will be for multimedia. Like between your laptop and TV so you can stream HD 3D content. The thing is, there are other, and better, standards which already work on that. I would like to see more work being put into WiFiMax standards. How ever router manafal. don't like that since it could possibly take them out of the equation.

Anyone else noticing the different random internet issues? Huge lag spikes in MMORPGs? Facebook was down/slow most of the day. Youtube just glitched, comments and sub's not working right. My ISP started throttling my traffic from 23% to 41% when hitting the backbone. Its just odd. Its across all IP's though. I have tracked it Center US and East Coast. Anyone on west coast able to confirm?

I can also confirm this, Facebook was down. It took for ever to download a game onto my ps3. Also You tube was not that slow I still got to see a few videos.

First, read this. Or more specifically:

"netTALK shall collect personally identifiable information, including but not limited to name, physical address, email address, telephone number, credit card information, and other personal information (collectively, "PII"), from Customers when initiating service and in connection with the provision or marketing of products and services"..... "Non-PII may include Web site pages viewed, time spent using certain services, demographic data, cookies, and other information which does not specifically identify any one individual."...."netTALK will use PII (1) to market products and services to Customers and Visitors that netTALK believes may be of interest to them, (2) to provide services and products requested by Customers and Visitors and (3) to enable its vendors and contractors to provide and assist netTALK in the marketing and provision of such services and products to netTALK, Customers, or Visitors."

So in short, they be all up in your internwebs, sneaking and spying. Not as bad as MagicJack. Review online aren't exactly bad, but theres not a whole lot of good either. Their possibly working out a service agreement with Verizon, but thats probably a year+ away. Forums says there some problems with 800 numbers, incoming calls (when they reset their servers, routing probably gets messed up) and with touch tones when calling automated systems. Other then that, the ethernet connection is alot better then the USB connect on most. BBB is a A, but like previously stated, new company.

Honestly, unless there is no other option stay away from things like this. Its just not worth the hassle. And theres so many other options. From Skype, to Vonage, to Google Voice and Google Phone. A bunch of others too I can't think off. I don't see any major advantage with them worth the price. Specailly since you probably have decent enough hardware to set up your own system. Just my two cents.

Why Furry why? ::frown::

There are so many better options, including free ones. It actually installs spyware on your computer. No joke. Thats why in the policy for Nettalk it specifically "our employees don't design spyware", because MagicJack does. Uuuuugggh. I hate it. Its up there with FinallyCleanPC.com and Modern Warfare on the Wii. To each there own and all but.... you have to doabt any service who's prime advertisement is the same group that does Shammo and MagicChop :-)

The only free service that exist that I know of is Nettalk and Magic Jack. Magic jack seems the worst choice because it has to be connected to a pc and will be wasting energy so I would go with nettalk. I really would like to cancel Vonage. I mean the service is great but I am not using it as much and it is costing me a lot of money. I guess that's how magic jack makes money LOLZ! installing spyware on your pc. Oh well.

Well haven't really noticed anything about MJ and the spyware. I've looked and haven't seen any or noticed any issues with it. And it good to travel with too when we do. To each his own.

Furry did you ever looked into the NetTalk device? I never heard that MJ installed spyware, but really I would go with MJ if they would have had a router feature phone line. Do you use the MJ as a primary tele phone service?

No havn't had a chance to look into the NT option. We use MJ here as kinda of a back up land line as our Bell provider was getting too spendy. Didn't really use the land line as much and mostly use cell phone. However have someone that works from home so they still need land line capabilities.

Well it depends how you define "free" If you mean not paying for anything, Google Voice, Google Talk, the lesser form of Skype, are all free. If your talking about only having to pay for equipment, look into a service called Ooma. Much less shady. As for MJ, yea, the driver for the device actually installs a form of spyware in the background of your computer that monitors web activity. It's in the TOS that they can sell this information to 3rd parties for advertisment reasons. Also, it can monitor your call records, but it doesn't sell this to third parties, it does how ever keep it on record for undefined reasons. Honestly though, thats how these companies make money. Either advertisments/selling info (MJ and NT) subscription (Premiew Skype and Vonage) or profits from the intial equipment investments. Ooma's been around a few years now and their equipment is higher end. Ooma's Site

I have already done my research on Ooma seems pretty good but expensive. Thanks for the added info Trikein. Ok I have decided to give Ooma a go, I have researched it in the past but it was just to expensive, but after doing some calculations I have come to a conclusion that it is best for me since more people have it and it is a less o***amble than nettalk, also did I mention it will pay itself in 8 month? that is quite a lot but we shall see on what I decide.
