Title: Bug in Latest Firmware for DCS-5029L WiFi camera
Post by: AWVKRS on October 14, 2016, 01:31:41 AM
After recently updating the firmware in many  DCS-5029L cameras we have discovered that the IR emitters do NOT turn off in the daytime setting. (They dim, but do not turn off.)

This is most noticeable when the cameras are placed in a window. When trying to see an image outside through the window there's a bright reflection from the IR emitters.  In all previous versions of the firmware the IR emitters were fully off in the daytime setting.  We have many DCS-5029L cameras, they ALL do this now.

Until the bug is fixed, is there a way to go back to the previous version of firmware?  Using 1.14.02 now.

Thanks.

Yes, download the f/w from dlink and manually upload it.

This has also been seen in 5222lb and 2330l.

Must be the same person messing up all these f/w.

Thanks for posting. I'll pass this on to D-Link.  ::)

Download what ?  1.14.02 has the IR emitter bug.  I THINK 1.13.00 was the last "good" firmware.  1.13.00 is not on the D-Link Web site.

try v1.11 and test...

I downgraded to version 1.13.00 from 1.14.02.   After doing this the camera refuses to access, "MyD-Link".  It will ONLY work on my local network with 1.13.

I did a hard reset, before installing  1.13.00.  Accessing the camera directly confirmed version 1.13.00.  When I go through the Setup Wizard it tells me that the camera cannot connect to the Internet. I have tried using Wi-Fi as well as hard-wiring. In both cases, local access to the camera is the only thing I can get. This is a mystery because prior to upgrading to 1.14.02 the camera worked perfectly with 1.13.

Downgrading to version 1.13.00 DOES fix the IR emitters failing to turn off problem.  However, if you can't access the camera remotely it makes it useless.

Ideas?

I had the same problem when downgrading my dcs 2330l f/w to 1.12. Red X in my dlink lite app. Didn't bother to further trouble shoot.  Figured it was just me.

After downgrading your firmware are you able to use the camera with MyDLink?  In other words, are you able to use the camera remotely?

Clearly, when installing firmware onto these cameras it does appear that the installation is not a "clean install".

I thought that is what I said.  After I downgraded, I got the RED-X.  I didn't bother to troubleshoot the issue, I thought it was just me.

So no - I can not view remotely in mydlink app.

I haven't tried to remove/reattached the device in the app or reset it or anything else.

Well, I guess I have essentially "bricked" one of my DSC-5029L cameras by trying to install 1.13.

All my other DSC-5029Ls have 1.14.02 with the IR emitter bug.  I guess my ONLY hope now lies with D-Link.  My concern here is that I'm not sure if they still make the DSC-5029L any more. It is still on their website, but it is always out of stock.  I wonder if the firmware for the DSC-5029L is also used another cameras?

I would LOVE to hear an explanation from D-Link as to why the 1.13.00 firmware fails to work properly.  ( I also tried 1.11, No joy. )

I have passed this issue on to D-Link for review. This model camera and others seem to be effected and they are taking a look at it. I recommend installing last working version of FW that has best functionality for now until D-Link reviews this. Even going back a version prior to v1.11 and try. If you need more help and information regarding this, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I have tried installing 1.13 as well as 1.11. In both cases, the camera will not communicate with the MyDLink service.  The camera can ONLY be used locally.

I telephoned D-Link support. The person I spoke with told me that this was the FIRST time he had ever heard of the 1.14.02 IR problem and would make a note. This did not sound promising.

Shockingly, when you go to their firmware update page, 1.13 and 1.14.02 are NOT there!  1.11 is the last choice available.

Thanks, the link you provided only has the latest 1.14.02 firmware. Previous versions are not offered.  The only reason I have a 1.13 is because I kept a copy back when it was the latest.  It would appear that 1.13 is nowhere on the Internet.

As an act of desperation, I tried re-doing everything with the DCS-5029L camera using a Windows 10 machine, (I normally use Mac).  This resulted in the exact same problem. The camera would only work locally, and refused to access mydlink.

So both Mac and Windows 10 fail to work and get the camera working with the MDL service?

Was there a case number for reference of the phone contact with D-Link support?

I have reported the IR LED issue to D-Link and they've added it to the list of cameras to review for this issue.

Case ID:  C6924676

So both Mac and Windows 10 fail to work and get the camera working with the MDL service?   Yes.  The installation wizard reports back, "Could not connect to the Internet", so I am never presented with the options where I enter the MyD-Link credentials.  This happens with Windows 10 and Mac OS.

I have reported the IR LED issue to D-Link and they've added it to the list of cameras to review for this issue.  Thank you! So there are issues of this same problem on the other D-Link cameras? I ask this because the more widespread the problem the more attention it will receive.

By the way, thank you for helping me with my problem, I appreciate it very much.

Which models?

FurryNutz, probably knows more, but the DCS-5029L for certain.

There's a couple of ways you can see if your camera has this problem.  Manually put the camera into the daytime mode. Go to a totally dark room and look straight at the IR emitters.  If the camera is working as it should, you will see absolutely nothing.  A faint red glow indicates the problem.

I discovered this on my  many DCS-5029Ls almost immediately by the camera looking out of a window at night. The infrared light reflects off the glass and spoils the image.

1.14.02_Beta Firmware for DCS-5029L appears to have solved the problem of the IR LEDs not turning fully off when disabled.

I have now installed this Firmware update on several DCS-5029L cameras with no harmful effects that I can detect.

>>  This is not a Beta, this is an official release. B02 = Build 02, not beta.  <<

Very confusing.  The file that I downloaded a couple of weeks ago ( 1.14.02_Beta ) has been removed. The latest version that they show is 1.14.02.  It has NO "B02" in the name.

http://support.dlink.com/productinfo.aspx?m=DCS-5029L

I have 1.14.02 installed on some cameras WITH the IR LED bug.  The 1.14.02 they show is dated 11-14-2016.  Surely they wouldn't have two different versions of firmware with the same revision number !?!?   I am trying to help others with this problem and I need to be able to point them to the proper firmware to install.

The beta was to help test the LED issue, once we helped to confirm it, I presume they removed the "BETA" from the file name and officially posted it as v1.14 Build 02.
Just because the .zip file naming convention isn't the same as the actual FW version, doesn't mean its different.

Review the release notes.

You are using the same version. No worries.

OK, but it NOT posted as v1.14 Build 02.  It is posted as 1.14.02. This is the exact same number as the Firmware WITH the bug. You CAN'T have two different versions of software with the same version number, it's mind boggling!
Title: Re: Bug in Latest Firmware for DCS-5029L WiFi camera

The original Beta was posted on the 7th which is my original date I posted this thread notifying users of the v1.14.02 "Beta" of the LED fix and to let us know if it was definitely fixed. Then on the 14th, since getting results back, D-Link didn't make any changes to the v1.14.02 "Beta" code and just took out the "beta" from the file naming convention and leaving v1.14.02 in the .zip file name.
v1.14.02 = v1.14 Build 02
So no reason for graduating build numbers or version numbers.

Nothing confusing about it.

Nothing confusing about it.

In early October 2016 I was pushed 1.14.02.  I installed this on multiple DCS-5029L cameras.  A few days later (10-I4-16)  I came to these forums to discuss the IR LED bug.

Now (as of 11-7-2016) we have NEW Firmware 1.14.02 where the bug has been fixed.  ( I just tested a camera with the [October 2016] 1.14.02 Firmware, IT HAS THE BUG ).  I have a another DCS-5029L with the more newly installed [November 7-2016] 1.14.02, it does NOT have the bug.

When I access the cameras built-in webpage, BOTH the cameras with the bug and cameras without the bug report the SAME 1.14.02 Firmware.

D-Link has two different published versions of their firmware with the same revision number. Confusing.

I agree!!

In my 35 years of computer experience this is the first time I've ever seen two different versions of software be given the same revision number.  Because of this, it is not possible for me to remotely tell what version of the firmware is actually on the camera without performing an IR LED test.

Because of my familiarity with the issues I can sort this out. However, I know that other people with the same problem will struggle.

Fortunately, I kept a copy of the 1.14.02_Beta firmware. So when I install it it has the word "Beta" in the revision. I will use this for my own purposes so I can keep track of what I've got. Perhaps in the future, a newer version of the firmware will be issued that will make this problem go away.

Again, thank you for your patience and understanding, I know that you are not the person assigning these same revision numbers.

This maybe a fluke or a one time event.
Future users shouldn't have any issues since the Beta has been removed and effectively became v1.14.02. All other files would not be irrelevant.

As long as the LED fix is in place and the other items listed in the release notes are in effect, users will be ok to install v1.14.B02 which is now the latest and greatest.

Enjoy.  ;)

Future users shouldn't have any issues

A DCS-5029L Camera user discovers his LEDs do not turn off completely when commanded to do so.  So, he looks at is camera to find out the firmware version. He finds it is version 1.14.02.  Then he goes to the D-Link website and learns that the latest version is 1.14.02.  He now incorrectly assumes he has the latest version of the firmware on his camera.  So, now he is contacting D-Link support, asking questions on these forums, leaving bad reviews on Amazon and going through unnecessary frustration because someone didn't number the latest version of the firmware 1.14.03.

In 1961 Vice Pres. Johnson met with Wernher Von Braun concerning sending a man to the moon. The Vice Pres. asked Von Braun if America could beat the Russians to the moon, Von Braun responding to the vice president that we could beat the Russians to the moon.  Johnson replied saying that the Russians had German engineers.  Von Braun then said to Vice Pres. Johnson, "Yes, but OUR German engineers are better than their German engineers".

FurryNutz, I'm really not trying to be petty, I'm German, and I cannot help it.  :)

Healthy postings Sir. Understand the concerns.

Again, user just needs to download the FW version again and re-apply to get the fix, should a user case like this happen. Simple as that.

I presume when and if another upgrade comes from D-Link, then the version or build number will change.

Enjoy.  ;)
