dns-343 problem with schedule copy from volume_1 to volume_2
« on: March 31, 2012, 06:59:39 AM »

I have two volumes on DNS-343

Did anyone who have similar configuration
tried to copy via schedule copy from volume_1 local folder to volume_2 local folder?

To configure schedule copy I used proper user/pass which have access both to volume_1 and volume_2

But still schedule download error occurs

Any suggestions?

thanks!

From my understanding the download scheduler has problems with files/folders containing special characters. Try setting up test folder contaiing a few files and run a scheduled backup job limited to the test folder.

i use scheduled download for other data source in my local network and it works fine

the problem is that if i choose "local" in schedule download configuration and choose local folder,
this local folder is not working (example //ip/Volume_1/testdir -> the test shows failure)
even if i choose local the url is like external (//ip/dir)

if just for test i input the other source (external) the test works fine

It looks that there is a problem with local folders, I use the username which have access for sure (with this user/pass i mount drive on other pc)

Do you have any suggestions?

In addition the f/w is 1.05 date 05/31/2011

btw: maybe i should post it in another post anyway
The reason why i want to copy volume_1 to volume_2 is because i need to exchange one abnormal hdd from volume_1 raid5. The reason why i want to use schedule copy for copy volume_1 to volume_2 is because i want to save time in copying 1,3TB of data.

Regarding to this if there is other way to save time or if it is save to just push 2TB drive instead of 1,5TB abnormal raid5 hdd and it will rebuild - i will just do this way ;)

I'm experiencing similar failures. My thoughts at this point is that this may be indicative of firmware 1.04/1.05, as the last time I regularly used the scheduled backup software was in version 1.03. I presently use a third party backup solution to sync my two DNS-343s. We'll need other users to validate the 1.04/1.05 failures as well as whether backup still works on version 1.03.

Are there any other DNS-343 owners who can validate whether this functionality works/doesn't work on FW 1.04/1.05?

it seems to be a fw problem :(

for network rsync it can work but even on 1Gb switch the copy between vol1 and vol2 linked as drive on pc the time of such operation makes me sad...

I found such fast copy solution with telnet option - is it worth to use?

ok

i've downgraded fw to latest stable 1.04 and local folders in schedule download started to work
will see if it can handle to copy over 1TB in resonable time ;)

the only question is if dlink team wish to make any f/w modifications in future for dns343...

I managed to get the backup working. . . not sure why it didn't work for my during my first attempt. Both DNS-343's are running FW v1.05.  ???

It is really strange then - you mean that now testing the local folder in schedule copy configuration didn't fail on your dns343?

as i wrote before i downgraded to 1.04 and within next 3 days 1,6TB will be copied from one volume to another

thanks for suggestions!

DNS-343 #1 has a schedule that pulls data from a directory on DNS-343 #2 to a local folder on DNS-343 #1

In this way it also worked for me (schedule copy from external source, in my situation it was from server resource)

What i tryied to do was to copy from dns343#1 local volume_1 to the some dns343#1 local volume_2
When I set in schedule copy configuration "local" and make test - it was "fail"

Anyway - if anyone it helps -
In my situation downgrading to last stable 1.04 make me possible to local schedule copy from volume_1 (raid5 3hdd's) to volume_2 (single drive)

From my point of view local schedule copy was really important as I want to exchange raid5 to raid1 and before that making backup of raid5 data in other way than funplug or lan.

I just performed a successful test copying a directory and sample contents from Volume_1 to Volume_4 on the same DNS-343, firmware version 1.05b01.
