IP Surveillance versus DView Cam
« on: December 25, 2009, 05:04:20 AM »

I originally began using my D-Link cameras, two DCS-5300s and a single DCS-6620, with the IP Surveillance software. I see that the software is no longer recommended and may no longer be available. Can anyone offer an explanation for the move to the DView Cam software? If I were to convert over to DView Cam from IP Surveillance will I lose any functionality or features. Will there be any functionality or features gained?

Viola!

I finally have the solution! My camera has been down for well over a year now. BeaverBoy sent me a Personal Message to suggest that I TENET into the cam and reformat it. Well I've not ever done that or used TELNET commands etc. It took me 14 months to get up the courage and find the time to try it.

I Googled TELNET to learn how to do it, and using the Format command I wiped out the troubled firmware. I then installed a previous, known to work without problems, firmware and I was able to save the camera!

Thanks BeaverBoy!

Yeah, the TelNet back door can be pretty handy sometimes!

I often have to remotely reset my DCS-5300g this way when it shuts down and refuses to connect...  :(

Shamefully this does not work on all D-Link cameras...

Just an FYI, I'm using "Putty Portable" for my FTP client.  Free, and runs from a flash drive!  :)
