Title: Can't forward ports on my 855!
Post by: Bomberman on May 16, 2011, 06:53:30 AM
Hey folks

I might have posted this in the wrong section; if so i'm sorry, but I've become desperate in making this work.

So i'll get to my problem:

My problem is that I've been trying to portforward a select ports through my router (Dlink Dir-855) so that i can host a server without any success, as i've wrestled with this over a long time I've tried with the virtual server, application rules and QoS aswell. But still no success. Also I've tried to turn off the firewall on the router and the ports still wouldn't open.

My routers firmware is up to date.
I'm hoping someone here can help me out.
if any additional information is required, feel free to ask.

thanks

What is your ISP Service?
What is your ISP Modem? Stand alone or built in router?
What firmware version is loaded?

How are you entering in the information to open up ports? Can you provide an example?

Hey and thanks for the fast reply.

the ISP is a local one here in sweden called Insatnet.se, the modem is a Cisco EPC3212 which is standalone.
I contacted my ISP and they said that there was no block from their side and that the modem itself does not contain a firewall.

On the router the firmware is 1.21EU

this is in the advanced -> port forwarding at the router setup screen.

192.168.0.199 being my local ip and i'm trying to host this server from this computer.
hope this is of any help.

Oh and also, i made my local ip static, since i read that the router tends to give new ones every 24 hours.
thanks!

Seen some issues with MineCraft before.
Check out this thread and see if you can find some help here:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=19922.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=19922.0)

When you say you set up static IP address, did you do this on the router or on the each device? Its recommended to setup DHCP reserved static ip addressing on the router and set the devices to auto obtain an IP adderss.

Is Advanced DNS Service and option on this router? I would turn it off if it is.
Enable DNS relay.
Ensure Primary and 2ndary DNS addressing is filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual.

yeah i read through that thread trying to find some info, but my problem is not playing online, since that works fine. it's just when i try to open up ports in general; It's a no go. :/

Yeah like you said, i did it through the router with reserving the one it gave me so that i'm always locked to it.

Advanced DNS has been off since the start.
However this DNS relay, i can seem to find it at all.
And both the dns servers i recieved from my ISP (i've talked to them about this before) are filled in aswell.

Ya, wondering why your having so much problems.
What is your Firewall settings set for? Try with them OFF?
Try setting them to Endpoint Independent for both TCP and UDP.

Have you been here:

to make it simple, this is how it looks inside:
I tried unchecking the spi and then i rebooted the router, but i still couldn't go through with the ports according to canyouseeme.org and whatsmyip.org
I could try again, cause maybe some of the other settings i've messed with afterwards might have helped.
but i don't really want to have to turn my firewall off just to be able to host a server.

EDIT: I just tried again, both with turning both options to endpoin independent and then with turning it off completely, still no progress however.

Ok. keeping the Endpoint Independent settings for both TCP and UDP.
Can you set up a QoS rule for the same data and see?

I had this rule setup before the previous tests.

Lets try changing the port range temp to 0 to 65535 and test on both Local and Remote.

tried it now, and still a no go. haha

I put into consideration that this might be a port triggering thing so that they wouldn't be open until they were being in use by a software or something. So i did these tests having this in consideration aswell.

This your ISP modem?

Been seeing some issues with these VoIP modems and external routers. Working with a guy that has an Arris cable modem and trying 2 655 routers exhibiting the same connection issue. I tried to Team Viewer remote in and I could not. Only if his PC was direct to the ISP modem could I remote in. Possible this could be a issue here as well. I presume you have VoIP phone in the home?

yeah that is correct, got voip running.

Strange though, cause i had no problem whatsoever with portopening with my old router (that was a rubbish one too)

shame shame :(

the modem is a Cisco EPC3212 which is standalone.
I contacted my ISP and they said that there was no block from their side and that the modem itself does not contain a firewall.

Well if your ISP told you that, they don't read the manuals of their own products. LOL

" Provides parental control and advanced firewall technolog" Page 11 of this manual (http://www.cisco.com/web/consumer/support/userguides2/4021203A.pdf).

First thing you want to do is bypass the router and go direct into the modem and see if it works. My guess is it wont. This person (https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2083934) had the exact same problem, and it was posted just a couple days ago. Is that you? Anyway, couldnt get it to work direct to modem. If it doesn't work direct to the modem, then call your ISP call them out on it.  Good luck

Yeah i read that aswell, and it was indeed me but the forums there ain't very helpful.
my guess would be that if i get my hands on the login info for the router i can handle it without any problems.

thanks for pointing it out anyway, will call them in the morning (:
