Adding swapfile support to the DSM-520
« on: February 14, 2008, 05:21:31 AM »

Hi,
One of the problems I've experienced with my DSM-520 is if I'm streaming a large file to it, it sometimes hangs or pauses for a long time (more than 10 mins).  I've tried this using a variety of media servers on Linux & PC & NAS devices.  It seems to happen across all of them so the DSM 520 is the common factor.  Smaller files in the same format have no problem.

This looks like the same sort of behaviour I see when I run out of memory on my desktop machine.

So my request/suggestion is that the version of busybox provided with the dsm-520 is built to include swapfile support, and that its possible to use  a USB drive as the swap file (even though its a slow option)

Regards,
