Transfer from MicroSD slow
« on: March 30, 2017, 10:21:15 AM »

Even when connecting directly to the camera via ethernet the best transfer speed I can get is 230kb/s on a modern i7 PC.

I tried different microSD cards and it didn't have any effect. All were class 10 or better, differing brands. Pinging the device yields <1ms replies yet the transfer speed is painfully slow.

Is this typical?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.

There is no router - I am plugged directly into the camera. It isn't the PC - I have tried two different PCs and both transfer at 220-230kb/s. I am keying in the camera IP into a browser, then browsing to the SD card, then selecting a file to download onto the PC.

I set a static IP on my machine and also have a static IP set on the camera. To reiterate, Ethernet cable goes from PC directly to camera. I have also tried going through an unmanaged switch with the same result.

I was using wireless to begin with but the transfer speeds were even slower, likely due to signal strength issues. I hard-wired expecting the speeds to increase but they only got slightly better.

I'll try this as soon as I figure out how to. It may be tomorrow before I have time to sit down and play with this again.

That's fast!  There's no gigabit on these.

I tried to discover the camera in windows but can't figure out how. Can you direct me to some instructions?

This would be a lot easier than going through the webpage.

Note that he's reporting a transfer speed in kbps, not mbps.

I downloaded a single video file from a DCS-2230 of "Size 51484", and IE 11 reported around 2.4MB/s.

Which is 2400KB/s. or 19200 kb/s.

I really doubt the original poster is getting 230 kb/s.

I don't have a card in my 2330L to test.  But downloading multiple files from the 2230 will over load/cause frame loss if streaming, and if wireless - the camera will give up the ghost and restart.

I have three of these cameras on my local network. All have the same speed issue. I have transferred files on three separate PCs with two different OSes. The screenshot was done with a direct connection to the camera, no network at all.

I can't get any of the PCs on the network to see the cameras as a media device. Any tips? Is there something on the camera that has to be enabled? Or anything on the PC?

Be sure uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding is enabled on ALL cameras.
Make sure uPnP is enabled on the main host router and PC as well.

I can see the device in windows now but it isn't recognized as a media device. It is listed as "other devices".

Why does port forwarding have to be on if I will only be accessing the camera on the local network?
