Title: DIR-882-US FORUM USER REQUESTS and BUGS
Post by: FurryNutz on July 07, 2017, 08:30:01 AM
This thread is in regards to what users would like to request DLink to review and consider adding features to the routers FW and operation. Also this thread includes any reports of bugs that are re-producible, that should be reviewed by DLink seen bythat should be reviewed by DLink seen by us users. Please be detailed, concise and tactful when posting the requests and bug details.

Do not arbitrarily post defects or bugs here. Before reporting concerns about defects or bugs, please ensure that troubleshooting of the problem has been thoroughly completed before posting a problem about defects. Not all issues are a defect or bug related. Let other users help you troubleshoot the problem first before posting here. Post your initial concerns or problems in the forums first before posting here. Many issues seen are not bugs. Inappropriate content will be removed.

Demanding anything will not get us anything. There are no guarantees.

Please keep other subjects, topics and questions to other threads and posts. This thread is just a central list of Features and Bugs for review by DLink.

If you like, you can PM me your list and details and I will add them to a list I've started here.  ;)

FEATURE REQUESTS:
Example: 1. Add router web page timeout options. (Would help to disable this when working with users in making operations in a slow manor or for those who like to keep the routers page open there browsers for a long period of time.)

BUGS:
Example: 1. At 24 MAC entries it said "You cannot add more rules because the table is full. " Need to find out if this is a defect if other rules are not set up in the pool or if there is an actual limitation on setting up the amount of MAC entries you can have.

The 882 is not mydlink cloud supporting.
It has WPA/WPA2 Personal settings and auto selects TPIK or AES depending on what your devices support.

Requests:
1. Add a standalone settings page for IP reservation
2. Add a switch for QoS Engine
3. Add more slots for Highest and High priority devices in the QoS page
Bugs:
1. When QoS is configured, the "download speed" & "upload speed" fields caps the speed for usb sharing, LAN speeds not tested but also might be affected

Requests:
1. Add a standalone settings page for IP reservation< Each device tile has it's own IP address reservation function. Enable or Disable.
2. Add a switch for QoS Engine<If you don't enter anything into the QoS engine section, then it's considered disabled. If you put something into the priority section boxes, then QoS will be enabled.
3. Add more slots for Highest and High priority devices in the QoS page
Bugs:
1. When QoS is configured, the "download speed" & "upload speed" fields caps the speed for usb sharing, LAN speeds not tested but also might be affected
So if you don't configure any QoS settings, USB sharing speeds are good and not good if you enable QoS? What devices are you putting into the QOS section when your using USB sharing?

Requests:
1. Add a standalone settings page for IP reservation
2. Add a switch for QoS Engine

i put my PC in the highest priority field, 2 phones into high, and i tested sharing with my PC without the phones connected
Sharing speeds gets exactly the same with the Download/Upload Speeds field
problem solved after resetting
Setting QoS up can re-produce the speed cap, and it blocks sharing access unless i restart samba/ftp sharing or reboot
speeds returns normal just after disabling (without reboot or service restart)

So disabling and enabling QoS, affects the download/upload speeds via SAMBA?
Issue is resolved by rebooting the client computer accessing the Samba/FTP server?

Nope
i'll have to restart the router or reconfigure sharing services or replug my disk after activating QoS, or i can't access sharing
activating QoS will limit sharing speeds via both samba and ftp, exactly the speed entered in QoS settings

when i set it to 70Mbps, it's about 6.5MBps

some new discovery……
usb devices plugged into the router's usb3 port becomes extremely hot (compared to when plugged in a pc)
seems all flash devices plugged into will be effected
i've noticed this before, with some metal flash disks, i didn't thought it's a bug though
but i just got my finger hurt when removing a multi-card reader without a case, the chip was excessively hot, so i'm here again
the reader wasn't damaged at all, and it acted much cooler on my pc
i plugged into the router again and found the reader heats hard in less then 5 secs, although it can perform normally
the reader is connected with a cable so it can't be the router's heat
this problem doesn't seem to happen with the rear usb2 port

Hi,

BUG :

I use the DIR-882 in only switch and access point WIFI (not WLAN RJ45) with DHCP disabled and it works properly.
Except the Wifi 'GUEST ZONE', the customer can connect but not access to internet or lan : Limited Connection on Wifi SSID.

Not a bug! Guest Zone main code depends on use of the WAN port. So when you configure the 882 for LAN to LAN AP mode, Guest Zone is not functional in this configuration. Guest Zone resides on the WAN side of the router.

Ok, so why this option in Guest Zone : Home Network Access -> Internet Access Only (disabled/enabled) ?

That's for when in router mode, Guest Zone may have access the internet and LAN side resources.

The router's clock seems to be on the right time (using the default, D-Link NTP server. Anyone else noticing this? Any known workarounds? My FW is 1.20

How do you have the schedule configured? Cna you post a picture if your schedule?
Adding Screenshots In A Post (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=58120.0)

Is the rows highlighted yellow for the times you want the wifi enabled?
What happens if you highlight everything in yellow, as a temporary test, does the wifi work. Then try everything not highlighted and wifi should be all disabled.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since the update yet?

Feature Request:
Product Code: DIR-882-US
Hardware Version: A1
Firmware Version: 1.20

I recently bought Dlink DIR-882 EXO router and updated the firmware to the latest 1.20.

I was wondering is there a way to put HDD connected via USB 3/2 port can be put to power saving mode or turn off the usb port when idle?

I see even when i am not accessing anything from HDD the USB HDD keeps spinning indefinitely. Ideally the router should have put the USB HDD to idle or power saving mode when it detects no activity is happening. Is there a way such a behavior can be achieved?

I tried exploring various configuration options but still i couldn't find any such setting.

I understand from support team that there is no way to set the USB port to power saving mode or turn it off when there is no active data traffic. Unfortunately the router's USB port cannot be configured as we wanted. Only settings you can configure for the device USB is under the USB sharing page which doesn't have any power saving options.

So, It would be really helpful if such an option is available or the firmware takes care of it by itself else the HDD keeps on spinning unnecessary causing poor hdd life. I even tried disabling all the options under "USB Sharing" but the HDD didnt stopped spinning. Also, there is no proper way to unmount it from WebUI and even after removing it from the usb port, the usb sharing page was still showing the same drive as still available. Only after rebooting the router, the usb sharing page correctly showed no usb device attached.

In Linux, there is a utility called hdparm which can be used to stop the drive from spinning. Atleast providing an option for unmounting the driver from webUI when you no longer need would be a really nice feature to have.

Most external drives are controlled by there own power controllers, not by routers.

However unsure if the router is constantly accessing the HDD or would have any impact on this.

Something you might ask D-Link support about.

Well, my hard disk doesnt have external power supply and yea it does have its own power supply management but it gets kicked in only when the HDD is idle which in this case is not happening. Also, there is no way to unmount the HDD on this router if you want to remove it or you just don't want to use it for sometime.

I raised the issue with dlink support already but they told they don't have a mechanism to control usb port from webUI but didn't mention anything about why router was using the HDD even when nobody was accessing it.

Also, mine is WD Elements Portable 1 TB HDD.

Most external drives are controlled by there own power controllers, not by routers.

Ya pretty much it is was it is. Its always mounted as most of the time for most general use, users want the drive mounted. Could be why the router maybe accessing it or the service keeps the drive running so that if as when a user does need something from it, its comes thru.

Nothing we can do about this.  :-\

Has anybody tried using Virtual Server setting on DIR-882-US? I am seeing an improper behaviour whereby virtual server setting works only if both internal and external ports are same else it doesn't do forwarding. I even tried rebooting the router after the configuration but it's still the same.

Example (Local IP in both case is same):
1) Internal Port: 22 and External Port: 5022 - Doesn't work
2) Internal Port: 22 and External Port: 22 - Works

If I want to use both internal & external port same then I can use port forwarding menu so typically virtual server option doesn't seem to be working on latest firmware 1.20 with hardware A1.

Was a factory reset and setup from scratch performed after you installed v1.20?

Has anybody tried using Virtual Server setting on DIR-882-US? I am seeing an improper behaviour whereby virtual server setting works only if both internal and external ports are same else it doesn't do forwarding. I even tried rebooting the router after the configuration but it's still the same.

Example (Local IP in both case is same):
1) Internal Port: 22 and External Port: 5022 - Doesn't work
2) Internal Port: 22 and External Port: 22 - Works

Yes as directed, I already reseted the router and reconfigured it again after the update. Also, I am trying to configure virtual server settings only after the reset.

Hi ,
I'm using Virtual server to map an internal NAS 443 port to 8080 outside port and it's working ; my advice would be that you use a port above 10000 as ports under are usually used by well known software and blocked by ISPs .
For me even 5022 seems to be working when doing a PortFw to SSH 22 on my NAS but yours myght be blocked .
L.E. also running firmware 1.2 ( global ) on HW rev A1 .

Thanks for the info. Can you please check if you have "Enable SPI IPv4" checked under Firewall->Advanced?

If I disable "Enable SPI IPv4" then virtual server seems to be working fine. Can please somebody let me know how this firewall setting affects the Virtual Server settings causing it to stop working?

Of course I have firewall enabled ; all options ( including the Advanced section ones ) except for <Enable DMZ> (as I have no need for it) are enabled .
The firewall used to have an issue where it would block the VPN Server but that was fixed in v 1.2 ; if anyone else might replicate your issue the devs should definitely investigate but I cannot replicate it.

Also, there seems to be a bug in Settings->USB Sharing->User.
Steps:
1.) After you reset the router, create a new user "samarth" with password "samarth".
2.) Now create another user with username "user" with blank password "". Save it.
3.) Now when you check the username "user" again, the password would be set as "samarth" the password of first user instead of blank "".

If in step 2, you set password as "user", then after saving the password would become "userrth", characters 5th, 6th & 7th if blank would be replaced by password of first user.

What transfer speed usually people get with HDD connected to USB3 port? I have USB3 portable HDD connected to the DIR-882 router but I am hardly getting a transfer speed of ~5MB/s be it on 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz. Also, there is no QoS Enabled on the QOS settings page and there is no other data transfer happening across the network but still it remains around ~5MB/s. Any reason for such a slow transfer from USB3? If I connect HDD directly to the PC, I get way over 90MB/s over USB3.

I can confirm that I can replicate your findings ; I never bothered much (except for playing/testing ) with the USB sharing part as I have a dedicated NAS for all these functions . Previously I had only created one more user apart from <admin> for VPN purposes (I wasn't in a hury to give a well known/well exploited <admin>  username VPN access so I used that only other user in all other testing and coincidentally their 2 passwords have the same number of characters therefor there was no apparent issue in my use case )
Indeed there seems to be a parsing error in which if a user has a shorter password then the user created before it then the difference in characters between the passwords will be filled in by the corresponding characters on those positions in the first password .

Regarding your second question about the read/write performance in my case it's a mixed bag ; when all planets align I'm getting ~30 MB/s write/read performance ( evidence in the https://imgur.com/a/whZm5qX  (https://imgur.com/a/whZm5qX)posted of a transfer from my NAS to a mount point on the router SAMBA share )out of an USB3 enclosure I've put my old spinning rust HDDs when I've upgraded to SSD in my laptops .
There does seem to be a power issue however which sometimes degrades performance to about 7 MB/s . I fully admit that I cheeped out on the USB3 enclosure so I don't think it's the best power efficiency wise ; for example now for testing purposes I am powering the USB3 HDD via a "Y" cable which draws power from the router's USB2 port also (data is only the USB 3 port and also power of course ) . After performance is degraded I did notice that restarting the router with the HDD attached does seem to return it to previous performance levels  .

Well, to be honest I tried everything but my HDD performance doesn't go above 6 MB/s. Plus i dont think it would be a power issue as my USB3 HDD has its own power supply so i dont understand why is the performance so poor? Does it have anything to do with the size of HDD? Mine is 2TB WD My Book with external power supply.

As I've said the HDDs I've used for testing were previously in my laptops so we're talking about 2,5" drives with the biggest being 1 TB and the other being 300 GB . You could try ( if you are willing to erase the data ) to format your drive and create a single partition of a lesser size ( <1 TB ) to eliminate this potential cause even though I doubt it .
I was going to buy a USB 3.0 dock  http://www.orico.cc/us/product/detail/3545.html (http://www.orico.cc/us/product/detail/3545.html) with separate power but if you're telling me that that's not the issue I won't bother .

Minor issue with 1.2 that wasn't present in 1.11 but I think it would be easy to duplicate and fix:  I have remote management enabled on a very high port (but this happens on the "default" of 8081 also).  When it times out, it attempts to return to the logon page using standard port 443 instead of the port I am actually using.  With 1.11, it would use whatever port I had set for remote management, and I would be sitting at the regular logon page after timing out.

Yes, did a complete reset after updating firmware... ugh... my config backup didn't restore so I had to enter all my port forwards and dhcp reservations by hand again... that's how I know I did the reset... :(

Not a biggie but thought I'd report it.

Well, it's not a single partitioned 2TB drive, instead it's partitioned equally into 4 partitions none of which is greater than 500GB.

Also, i more thing i observed is it can't handle more than 4-5 connected devices in 5G. It's beam forming technology latches on to one of the devices and cuts off network access to everything. I had to specially enable 2.4G for devices which are not able to connect over 5G because of this. But usually i have observed there will be only 4 devices on 5G, other all would be connected over 2.4G. This problem exists across all firmware versions. Same observation with Smart Connect enabled and disabled. All my devices are 802.11ac 5G capable. Is there any workaround this problem?

How many 5Ghz devices do you have connected or attempting to connect?

I would make contact with your regional D-Link support office about this:
I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this.

We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

I have atleast 8 devices which are 5Ghz capable and at any given time there would be 6 devices online always. Currently too it has latched onto my echo dot which is placed nearest to my router and all other devices have to connect over 2.4Ghz. i will try to get in touch with local support but i am not sure that would be helpful as they usually tend to reply back with predefined answers without understanding the technicality of the problem.

Well this maybe a HW issue or a FW issue. However I don't think it's a FW issue. Last time I had my 882 online, it worked fully for me an my near 30 devices. I have about same number of 5Ghz devices.

You might revert back to a prior version of FW and see. You'll need to use the recovery mode to downgrade:

Hi,

I have two problems with the 1.2 firmware that has made me revert back to the 1.11 firmware:

1) The admin web page has problems with Safari on iOS. The page works ok the first visit and login, bur after that I just eget a blank page each visit. If I clear all cached web data in Safari I can log in again. This problem is not present with the 1.11 firmware.

2) D-Link has updated the channel list in 1.2, and it now includes the U-NII-3 channels for my country (sweden). This makes the Auto channel mode select these channels, and two of my clients can no longer connect since they don't support U-NII-3. This forces me to make a manual channel selection to one of the regular U-NII-1 channels. Firmware 1.11 did not include U-NII-3 channels, so I could run Auto channel selection without any problems.

One PC was connected with a DWA-192 and a laptop was connected to a NetGear R7800 in wireless bridge mode.

I then enabled 2.4Ghz and SC. All devices re-connected and got internet access with out problems.

Well that tells the adapter to work on wireless mode G N and AC. I presume there is other selections for that drop down.

What was the other selections?

As far as channels go, for 2.4Ghz 1 thru 11 here in the USA, for Europe regions, 1 thru 13 is supported.

Sounds like you got it figured out.

Enjoy.  ;)

Feature Request such as :

1) Option to choose security as WPA2 AES, instead of WPA/WPA2.

2)Instead of Auto 20/40/80 MHZ, it would be much better if Dlink gives us the option to choose it individually like 80 mhz or combine only 20/40 MHZ together for 5 ghz & 2.4 ghz band.

3)  Connected device's Link speed.

I've unfortunatelly upgraded to 1.30 and the usb ports can't even read a 32gb usb-stick, although the power indicator on the stick lights up.

Furthermore, after the (previous) firmware merged the two wi-fi networks (2.5GHz and 5GHz), the signal has weakened, and where (behind 3 walls) I had a speedtest of ±100 mbps, now it even disconnects the laptop from the wi-fi network.
Laptop still reports full signal connection on 5ghz, but after for example a youtube video buffer, it just disconnects. Happens on two macbook pros (2015 and 2020).

Anyone else had similar issues?.

1.3 is not working for me.
factory default, then update through router own updater, factory defaul and give this:
(https://i.postimg.cc/HWvGh1nj/Captuere.png) (https://postimages.org/)
reconect every 2 minutes.
after this, emergency recovery is broken, so update failed all the times, no matter which browser or 30-30-30 procedure i use.
fortunately, original web gui is load, then revert to 1.2 and everything is sucessfuly restored.

dont fix what is not broken  :)

i can't load firmware from external file, update fail every time. and yes, i can't even load previous configuration file which i made for 1.20 firmware (when i restore 1.20 firmware).
something is broken on my device. i have full speed on external usb, no one else doesn't.  :)

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this.
Link> Tech Support Contact Information (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?board=635.0)
We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
