FYI- DCS-2132L Hardware Revision Coming
« on: January 07, 2014, 09:40:44 AM »

Personally I am waiting for the DCS-2136L, which has a slightly wider angle lens than the DCS-2132L which I currently have. I was checking out some FCC filings for the DCS-2136L and came across a new filing for the DCS-2132L dated 01/02/2014 (KA2CS2132LB1).

It looks like there is a hardware revision on the way for the DCS-2132L. From what I can tell, the Realtek chipset is the same, it appears however that a few cost-saving measures have been put into place. The biggest one I could see was the change in the antenna. The original version had a separate antenna module (CC&C WL-294). The new filing uses a cheap bent piece of metal as the antenna.

JavaLawyer-  I know the DCS-2136L (FCC ID: KA2CS2136LA1 https://fcc.io/KA2/CS2136LA1) is a new model with many different/new features like a wider angle lens, color night mode, 802.11ac (1x1) support. I am going to be picking it up once it is available to order. D-Link missed the originally announced launched window for it (Dec 2013).

I was just pointing out to prospective and current DCS-2132L owners that a hardware revision is on the way (a version 2 if you will of the same model). Same features as what is on store shelves now, but cheaper / lower quality revisions to the hardware most likely to lower costs for d-Link so they can lower the price point and/or increase margin for the DCS-2132L.

Yes, dead thread & all that, but I'm changing the antenna for something more long range. Very nice having found this post, I wouldn't have thought to look at FCC filings, thanks!

Just wanted to point out that the version 2 antenna is a much better antenna than what the version 1 has. I opened both FCC links, read the test reports for both versions. The chip antenna used in the 1st version is a 0.5dBi antenna. The 2nd version is a 2.2dBi antenna. The steel structure is many times more massive than that tiny little surface mount chip antenna. Transmit power goes down a tiny bit, but antenna gain more than makes up for it

However, what I am really looking into is choosing the correct point on the board to unsolder the chip antenna and drop in a salvaged antenna from a WAP54G router. I'm planning on adding a mounting bracket on top of the camera housing, to hold the antenna base. Mainly because I need a flat surface on top. The bracket will probably be part of the WAP54G housing, welded into place using my soldering gun with a very abused tip

It looks promising, the chip antenna is fed from a matching network via a 3mm trace and a good sized solder pad. I'm going to try keeping the matching network and just unsolder the antenna itself, then solder the end of the cable coming off the antenna base I removed from that router

Been very annoying, trying to get this camera setup in my workshop using the wifi from the house. My phone and laptop both are connecting just fine, but the camera wouldn't until I moved it inside the house
