IVp6 does not seem to work
« on: November 07, 2018, 05:34:36 PM »

Hello all,
I have D-link DIR-850L that has (and does) give good service. I just picked up a DIR-882 mainly for minor upgrade (and a new toy).

I use a Motorola SB6141 modem and have Comcast as a provider.

Out of the box I did firmware updates to the latest version 1.11, all went well and I am very familiar with the D-link upgrade process (all done manual).

I was able to get IPv6 easily with my DIR-850L, I have duplicated the setup on the 882 and have no IPv6 connectivity. Other wise the unit is working well (not running it full time yet).

What works on the 850 is Auto configuration (SLAAC/DHCPv6) the only setting different on the two units a the router advertisement is blank on the 850 and the 882 setts itself to 30 min, I don't see this as an issue but its the only thing that is not the exact same.

Main question is there something known with this FW and or unit , or something I missed (tried most every setup) concerning the IPv6.

Thanks -- Bill

Update

I placed a call to D-link support it was good call as tech listened and checked with others we went through setup of IPv6

I am able to populate and see IPv6 addresses on PC using manual config (due to my tech limits I was not able to get internet connectivity (hitting the correct addresses))

I am also able to get Local Connectivity Only to populate correctly, using the above D-link tech and myself feel the hardware is OK

I have come to the conclusion there is a firmware issue with the auto configuration section as the older DIR-850L connects (to IPv6 test sites) if I swap it out using the same settings.

Sure would appreciate knowing if others are seeing the same results

Also if the mods could help D-link understand there "could" be a problem -- Thanks always - dbill

I can confirm that IPv6 isn't working for me either ; my ISP gives the PPPoE user dual stack IPs (normal IPv4 address and a IPv6 /64 via Prefix Delegation RFC 3769).
The WAN interface seems to get the IPv6 address , also the PD range seems to be received but my guess is that the DHCPv6 server isn't working because no client received the apropriate IPv6 address .

Here's the config @ this time

me_iauras -- thank you so much for your reply and time

After fooling with this all day I will try to return it, I have convinced myself IPv6 is not going to work

I like it otherwise but don't want to assume it "will" be fixed with a firmware update

Thanks again

I would make contact with D-Link support. I presume this is something that can't be helped here in the forums and needs to be reviewed by D-LInk support.

We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

FurryNutz - Thank you for your response, I did contact support as indicated in my "update"

I will be checking with my retailer tomorrow on the possibility of exchanging the unit for another model. I feel strongly about IPv6 support and something is clearly wrong that tech service cannot explain other than telling me to contact my ISP for settings. If my trusty 850L can do IPv6 with all the same settings reliably with all the same "other" hardware (no modem changes or PC changes) there is something with this  hardware.

Tech support was fast to reach, they took time with me, answered my questions to the best of there ability. Much like this forum has always been.

Sure I am disappointed but all I can say is thanks, and these things happen sometimes  -- dbill

I worked with Dlink support on a DIR-882 IPV6 problem June 2018 that could be related to this problem.  Dlink support provided a beta firmware update that fixed my problem but my problem was not fixed in the V1.11B01 FW update.  My Call Case Id: C7107253

The ipv6 gateway address (router address) gets deleted in all windows clients about 25 minutes after a Static DNS address is entered into the DIR-882.  The ipv6 Gateway address stays in place indefinitely when Obtain DNS Address Automatically is selected in DIR-882.  Windows indicates that ipv6 is connected to the internet because it has ipv6 addresses.  But ipv6 traffic cannot get to the router after the ipv6 Gateway address is deleted.  Need to use ipv6-test.com to see this or verify ipv6 gateway address with ipconfig.

Wireshark trace shows that DIR-882 is sending RAs with Lifetime=0 when I enter my own DNS server address and this is what causes all Windows clients to delete the ipv6 gateway address after about 20 minutes.  RA with Lifetime=0 indicates that the route is not valid.

  • What region are you located?

What version is the beta that you received from D-Link?

Strange the 1.11 version should contain the fixes in 1.10B02 BETA.

Also when switching routers, ALWAYS reboot the modem.

I see a DTrack case (internal ticket system with engineers) for this router and IPv6 so hopefully there will be a newer firmware soon.

I posted the BETA here --> ftp://FTP2.DLINK.COM/PRODUCTS/DIR-882/REVA/DIR-882_REVA_FIRMWARE_v1.10B02_BETA_IPV6%20connection_issue_Encrypt.zip

From the post here I am feeling better it was not me

Additional notes:  I did try the 1.10B02 firmware on the main D-link site (I was thinking firmware)
My service (Comcast) is native IPv6

The modem was always rebooted (router will not connect unless you do) when switching during testing

So from my limited understanding the issue I faced was with Auto Configuration not setting up - from what I could read setting up static would have broken when my ISP "renewed" (changed their IP).

Conclusion: I did return the device, so the topic as it pertains to me can be closed, I will make another effort in the near future.

My sincere thanks for the help here, always helping me learn. -- dbill
