New Cloud Routers
« on: September 06, 2018, 08:05:35 AM »

Having a problem (and EOL) modem (DIR-868L), I'm now shopping for a replacement.  I currently have a DIR-890L at my home and the DIR-868L at a vacation home.  I really like the MyDlink features that allow me to see/configure my routers, switches and cameras.  Any recommendations?

Find you another 890L. I presume there would be a good used one for cheap on Amazon.  ;)

While I like my 890 it too is now an old model.  Is Dlink discontinuing Cloud Routers?  I really just want a router that I can see with an app (MyDlink Lite).

D-Link currently does not have any plans for new cloud routers.

the 890L isn't that old and is still a good router. There maybe one more FW update for the 868L, however, we don't know yet. There is a bug in wireless bridge mode. Were hoping that will be fixed.

I agree that the 890L is a good router, but so is the 868L.  The 868 has just started giving me problems (phantom Firmware update, can't change MyDlink registration, random inability to connect remotely via Web, can't save settings, etc.).  Don't want to have to change brands.  Maybe factory reset and rebuild???

You can remove the router from the mydlink.com web portal.

Yes, doing a factory reset would be suggested. After it's setup, you can re-associate it with a different mydlink account if you have more then one.
D-Link didn't auto update the 868L. So not sure where the update came from.
What Rev is the 868?

Ver 1.12 (Shows a date of 09-01-2018). I did not update.  Several days ago the firmware was 1.10

Hmmm, is there a auto update feature in the FW update section in the UI. I don't remember one being there. it's been a while since I looked at that UI.

You can revert back v1.10 if you want too. If there is a auto update, i believe it can be disabled...

I found a new change with this firmware update:  a new section under "Advanced" called TR069.  I have no idea what this is but a google search suggest remote access which seems to be the root of my current problems.

I would love to revert back to ver 1.10 but I don't have the .bin and can't find it.

Can find it here:
https://tsd.dlink.com.tw

Can the TR069 be disabled?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TR-069
I believe one reason why it may be there is that some ISPs use(d) this model modem back then and may have needed the use of remote management for there customers where needed.  :-\
