Some MP3's Won't Play Media Server Says Transitioning
« on: December 23, 2009, 05:47:08 AM »

Hello,  I have the DSM-520 with latest firmware.  I noticed that some of the MP3's won't play on it but will play on every other digital device I have (i.e., ipod, mp3 players, computers, etc...).  Most MP3's play okay but some just display and never start playing.  When I look at the dlink media server it says "Transitioning" and just stays like that until I switch to another song!

I thought it might be the computer and media server so I tried others and still same problem.  I even copied the MP3's to a USB drive and they still don't play but again will play fine on everything else.

Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.  Yes, also eliminated that it's not a network issue!  Thanks.

Is your firmware 1.06?

What error message do you get from the DSM when you attempt to play from the thumb drive?

Do you know the bitrate?  I believe there is a minimum rate that is required before the DSM will play the file.

Firmware is 1.06.  I do not get any error message.  The MP3 loads the information on the screen, such as title name, artist, etc.  but the counter never starts going it just stops and the screen stays still until I move to the next track.  The same thing happens whether it's on the thumb drive or a network drive.

Thanks for any help.

What is the bit rate of your MP3 files?  Specification states that the bitrate should not exceed 320 kbps.

Is it possible that they have DRM on them?

Are they files you created or were they downloaded?  Explain how they were created or downloaded?

Thanks.

By the way...bitrates below 48 kbps are not supported.

Yes, but it doesn't seem to be the problem.  I copied the MP3's to a usb drive connected it and got the same response.

What software and settings are you using when ripping?
