Title: Upgrade Drives
Post by: Clayton on June 27, 2010, 01:14:04 AM
Is it easy to upgrade my 2 drives in the DNS-323? I am running RAID1 and guess I just replace one at a time until it has mirrored to the new one? then add the other?

If you do that, the capacity of your RAID will remain the same. You'll need to copy all your data off the NAS and reformat your drives and copy your data back on. You should have a backup of your data anyway, so hopefully this won't be a chore.

Actually the NAS is the backup drive

Mine too, but I still have a copy of the data that is on it for eventualities where I want to upgrade my RAID array and the NAS decides to destroy my data. Paranoia is a good thing. Regardless, you'll still need to do what I suggested to get your full drive capacity. This is how RAID is designed rather than a floor in the NAS.
