Air Print Issues?
« on: November 29, 2012, 09:54:30 AM »

I am doing some troubleshooting and trying to narrow down the cause of the problem.

I have a couple of Apple devices on my network.  An iPhone and an iPad.  At one time, I could Air Print from both of these devices to my HP 5510 printer which is also on the network.

I don't use Air Print much, but neither of the devices can find the printer any longer.  Potential causes (things that have changed since I last used Air Print successfully).
-iPhone and iPad now run iOS6 rather than iOS5
-HP 5510 has taken at least one update pushed from manufacturer
-DGL-4500 router has had some settings changed in order to rectify "Moderate NAT" issue that was the subject of another thread in the forum.

So, I ask my expert friends here on the forum.  Could any of the settings that I changed on my router to fix the moderate NAT issue have stopped the router from handling Air Print?

If so, what settings do I need to look at?  And if not, then I will continue my troubleshooting with the HP and Apple forums (neither of which are as well organized or helpful as this one!).

Check to see if WMM Enable either ON or OFF does anything. There was another thread in the DIR-655 forum that someone mentioned that disabling WMM Enable resolved this...

Keep us posted.

Thanks, I will definitely give that a try.

As I have been searching the HP/Apple and user-created forums, it seems that several people had some issues after iOS6 came out - devices that took the upgrade could not Air Print while devices still running iOS5 continued to work.  That is the most likely culprit, but there didn't seem to be an easy fix.

Have you heard anything about the DGL 4500 and whether it handles the Apple Bonjour services?  Router compatibility with Bonjour seemed to be an un-fixable problem.

It's been a while since anyone has posted anything about Bonjour. I personally didn't see any issues when I had mine going as the host router however I don't think I used Bonjour enough to notice anything. One thing that might help in getting Bonjour going between devices if this could be a router issue, you might install a external Gb network switch between the router and any wired devices using Bonjour, this could help some on that level. If you can see if 2 wired devices can use Bonjour this way, might help in determining if the router or something else is causing the problem.
