Hi,
  I am a newbie to networking and was wondering whether I can connect my Dlink DIR 825 wireless router to an existing wireless router (Asus AC-RT51U) such that the Dlink router functions as an access point. Both routers are dual band.

P.S: I don't want to connect the two routers with an ethernet cable.

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.

AP mode devices requires a LAN to LAN wired connection. You can do this with the 825:
Turning a router into an AP.

The DIR-825 doesn't support wireless bridging which I presume you are referring too.

I have a DIR 825 A1 - firmware 1.14NA

I also have a old linksys router (i think wrt54g).

I am trying to get better wifi coverage in my house.

I am also a networking newbie, and found this website you linked above: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=40856.0

I am confused with those instructions:

Would I turn my dlink 825 into an AP, then connect it to the modem (FIOS wall unit) and then connect the linksys to the AP with a cable (or powerline adapter)?
OR
Would I connect the linsys router directly to the modem, and then turn my dlink into an AP and connect it to the linksys router with a cable (or powerline adapter)?

Is it modem -> AP -> router or is it modem -> router -> AP so that I can get good wifi in other parts of the house?

Also, to answer maakya's question about not connecting with wire, this is what I did:

I had an old linksys router. I changed that into a repeater by following some instructions online (don't remember where.. you can google it).
So the linksys router was picking up the wifi from my dlink 825 and then repeating the signal. However, with a repeater, the speed drops significantly.
I didn't need to change anything about the dlink router which was connected to the modem.
