DCS-932L viewing/recording with VLC
« on: March 12, 2012, 08:40:27 AM »

Hello,

I'm thinking of buying a DCS-932L. I would like to do a simple VLC setup that currently works with my Foscam where I can record the MJPEG stream...

Has anyone tried the DCS-932L with VLC's "Open Network Stream -> URL" (not AVI viewing)?

While I have had success viewing the -932 on various apps and software, I think (cant recall for sure) I was not successful using VLC.  Mostly this is because I remain uncertain what is the streaming URL address.  Having tried most of the standard options, i never got one to work.

I have been able to get video working well under VLC - however, audio doesn't work quite right. Search the forums for audio issues.

I have gotten so far as to get VLC to pop up a user/password dialog when opening the stream, but I have been unable to figure out what to actually put there.

For the curious, the stream appears to be http://192.168.137.2/MJPEG.CGI , with the IP replaced with the appropriate one for yours, of course.

My apologies - It worked before, it appears to not be working now.

I have had very mixed results with streaming video using the direct address approach.  I have concluded (without much investigation or evidence) that the results vary based on whether I have already logged in during a current session.  If not, a stream address such as:

http://your.ip.address/MJPEG.CGI

does not work for me.  I wonder, too, if this address fails if you have configured your cameras and router with static port and port forwarding.

Alternatives may included:

http://your.ip.address:yourportnumber/MJPEG.CGI

but this still fails to address login credentials or how to stream over a WAN address.
