Dear all,

Please be enquiry about the procedures of fallback firmware of DIR-655 from V1.04 to original V1.02, because I got very lag and unstable of my DIR-655 after flashed with the newest firmware with version 1.04 when operated in a large traffic condition such as BT download, online game and Web roaming simultaneously among my four wired LAN PCs. I had download the firmware version of V1.02 at dlink support site 'http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/' with the firmware name in 'DIR-655+Firmware+1[1].02B00.rar'. Refer to their support site recommandation: 'Please note that firmware version 1.01 must be currently uploaded on your DIR-655 prior to uploading firmware version 1.02'. Do I need to flash my DIR-655 the firmware with version 1.01 firstly and then flash the 'DIR655_FW1.01patch.bin' and finially come to firmware version V1.02. The above procedures is correct or not ?, if not please tell me what is the correct procedures.

Thankyou for your reply.

I have a hardware version A2 DIR-655 and I did not have any problems going directly back from firmware version 1.04 back to 1.02.

The 1.01 is only required when going from 1.00 to 1.02. The 1.01 re-writes the base firmware of the unit, to allow compatiblity with the 1.02.

Funny you should ask... ;D

I upgraded my FW from 1.02 to 1.04 ( :-\ wirelessly :-\)  and it Flashed properly.

Then I loaded 1.02 back on it ( ;D Wired ;D)

It is not possible to crash recover a DIR-655 (at least I have never been able to crash one, and believe me, I have tried). There is a CRC check that makes Wireless Firmware updates viable with this unit as well.

Very thanks for mb, Lycan, We Are Many and GodTheHamster with yours treasure opinions. I had fallback my DIR-655 firmware version from V1.04 to V1.02 directly a couple days ago, now the router is operated more stable and fastest as previously without any side effect.

Thankyou very much.

All,
I had a major problem running with the  655 1.04 firmware.  My set up is as follows 1 655 dlink router 1 323 and G600 NAS box  5 web cameras (1- 2100 2-2100G and 2 6620G). With the new 655 firmware 1.04 the 2 6620G cameras rebooted every 30 seconds using a virtual IP address and a private port until they both locked up after an  hour of re-booting(Standard defaults were used in the 1.04 firmware). I finally went back to the original V1.02 and so far after 3 hours all five cameras haven't blinked once, so it look like they need to do some additional testing EX with 6620G cameras and new firmware for the 655.

Wireless firmware updates are NEVER recommended. Even with the CRC, the unit can fail and partially load the firmware, hosing the unit.
Not to mention I believe D-Link will void your warranty for that.
Just FYI.

*UPDATE*
the 1.05 is a viable solution for those that enjoyed the performance of 1.02 but would like some of the newer "added features". (e.g. WiFi scheduling, Widgets, etc.)
Nice firmware.
