Buying a DIR-855 ?
« on: September 11, 2008, 02:22:29 PM »

Hi,

I have seen that the DIR-855 is now available in Sweden.
HW: A2
Firmware 1.10EU / 1.11EU (I don't remember exactly which version was written on the box).

Is this A2 version now OK? Stable working?
WLAN performance OK?

I own one of these devices. Hardware version A2. 1.11EU F/w.
The range of the 2.4Ghz radio is poor. I have had better range from a 50 euro linksys running dd-wrt.

I have not tested the 5Ghz radio or N speeds at all. I am waiting for a pcmcia N adapter (Don't even know if one is planned TBH.) Either that or until i can afford a media bridge. Otherwise i use a lot of other features of the router and the firmware is overall nice and is stable.

I am disappointed with wireless range but will wait for a better firmware version rather than ebaying it just yet. Shame i didn't find this forum before i bought it. (had just read the usual reviews - some of them did mention poor range but i would never have dreamed it would have been this bad.)

FYI : I bought mine recently from broadbandbuyer.co.uk.

I didn't have problems so far. Range is good enough for my house. Note that I do not use  many features.
