DIR-825 used as AP - Connected, No Internet Access
« on: January 08, 2016, 08:38:17 AM »

Hey guys,

I'm having the issue mentioned in the title.  This just happened two days ago, after power cycling the parent router (Shaw HiTron Modem/Router).  Previous to that using the DIR-825 as an AP was working splendidly.

The settings I had were as follows;
DIR-825
DHCP OFF, DNS Relay OFF, IP ADDRESS 192.168.0.1, cable plugged into LAN port 1

HiTron Modem/Router
IP ADDRESS 192.168.0.254, everything else left as is

After restarting the Shaw modem/router I have not be able to access the internet.  I've checked my wireless devices (phones, tablets, etc...) IP addresses and they're in the range of 25.68.xx.xx.  So, totally out of range.  I have no idea what is causing this.

I installed the latest firmware on the DIR-825, and reset to factory settings.  Then I changed all the settings back to what they were previously, as shown above.  Again, I only power cycled the shaw modem, so the settings haven't changed.

I'm currently at work, so I'm providing this information from memory to best of my knowledge.

Edit:  The DIR-825 I have is rev B and is running firmware 2.09NA.

Link>Welcome!

So when devices are connected to the ISP modem/router they are getting a 25.68.xx.xx?
What is the gateway IP address your getting on the connected devices on the ISP modem.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. When wireless devices are connected to the AP, they're acquiring addresses in the 25.68.xx.xx range.
Another thing, I've changed the AP's address to 192.168.0.250, just to make sure that the initial IP address wasn't an issue.  It didn't do a thing for me.

My PC is connected directly to the ISP modem via wall outlet.  The default gateway on the PC is 192.168.0.254.

Seems like something on the ISP modem needs to be reviewed. Can you connect the PC to the 825 and get access there?

I wasn't able to establish connection through another LAN port on the AP.  I attempted with my GF's laptop.  Actually, I've been using that to connect to the AP to make changes.

Maybe the road I need to travel is resetting the ISP modem to factory and starting anew?

Ya you might try starting over with the ISP modem and 825.
What is the DHCP IP address pool range on the ISP modem?

Also review this:

I can't remember off the top of my head.  I do remember that my PC's IP address is 192.168.0.6.

Well if you can set the DHCP IP address pool on the modem to 192.168.0.100 to .199, then set the 825 to 192.168.0.50. Static IP addresses should be outside of the DHCP IP address pool, not with in it as these are reserved for reservation IP addresses.

Okay, I'll give that a go when I'm at home.  I'll try your guide again, step by step.  Thank you for all the input.
