Glad the beta helped fix this. Hope D-Link will post it soon.

Enjoy.  ;)

A quick update:  The reduction in WAN from auto to 100Mbps worked for a short time and then I was back to the same issue.  I received an email from the DLink tech support advising that there was a new Firmware in Beta and to test it.

I did a factory reset, installed the new firmware (going through 1.04 and then the 1.10B) and then did another factory reset. So far it has been rock solid (knock on wood) and I have had no drops in connectivity.  At this point, I'm almost getting weirded out that it works so well...

I've contacted support and upgraded to the beta firmware. I will try this over the next few days and let you know how it goes.

Here is the link they sent me:

I haven't seen a drop in the connection since I upgraded to the BETA firmware.

It looks like the Beta firmware has fixed the problem  8)

Sorry for the delay.

The beta I was sent from support was 1.10B02_Beta.

There was a beta folder in the firmware update FTP and that's where they sent me.

The router has been ROCK solid since then, I might have reset it a handful of times since then a few times just because I was used to it!

Thank you to everyone here for the support and troubleshooting!  You all rock!

Hi,  I just purchased this router and over the past few days I've noticed various deviced randomly dropping connection.  The only way to reconnect it is to forget the wifi connection on the device and reconnect and authenticate.   Extremely frustrating.

I updated using the latest firmware manually (due to the Check for new firmware showing no new firmeware available), within that firmware update there were two to upload separately.  I'm hoping my issues will be resolved with this, otherwise back to the store it goes.

What clients/devices are disconnecting?

What is your environment like? Where is the router placed?

How many wireless devices are connected to it?

Do you have any range extenders connected?

Do Ethernet devices drop too?

Do all the clients drop at the same time or are they all random?

Try disabling SmartConnect in the router (Settings > Wireless)

Hello,

Just to add to this, I have a DIR-882 and have been having the same issue since I bought it six months ago. Initially wired and wireless connectivity would drop. Then it seemed to only be wireless. Lately I have been getting disconnected from online games with an error message that suggests there is an issue on my network even though when I go to speedtest I get 100 down and 16 up (I think I should be getting more up but don't know if it's related).

I upgraded to FW110 two nights ago and last night my entire connection dropped.

I had to hard reset my modem as for some reason the settings had been reset and I didn't have any options for PPOE (bizarre!). After a reset, the options reappeared and I was able to reconnect to the internet.

I will attempt to reconnect the router tonight and see how it goes. I will do another reset of the router beforehand to see if that helps. If that doesn't fix my problems then I will be taking the modem back as I've had nothing but problems with it since I bought it.

Is there anything else I should try?

You have a router built in to your modem:
https://www.spark.co.nz/shop/internet/modems/spark-hg659b/
  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on a Router

Or use the DIR router in this configuration:
Turning a router into an AP.

Are you wired or wireless connected to the router? Both. Connection drops on both.
Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch? Only before. I will do a before and after tonight.
