DAP-1555 with DIR-655: 300 Mbps connection?

(1/1)

NewPrometheus:
Hi,

I'm running a DIR-655 wireless router by my cable modem, and I'm running a DAP-1555 mediabridge on the other side of the house to connect my home theater equipment to my network.

I read the sticky post entitled "300 Mbps connection requirements!  Please read!" at the top of the DIR-655 forum and I'm intrigued.  I would like to optimize my configuration for performance, and so to that end I have a few questions:

1) Can the DIR-655 achieve a 300 Mbps connection with the DAP-1555?

2) How do I determine the bit rate at which the DAP-1555 is connected to the DIR-655?

Thank you!

Bullseye2298:
Yes, you can get 300 mbps, and on the 655 it will tell you under Status/Wireless.  Hope this helps.

CrunchyDoodle:
Until recently I had two DAP-1555 boxes linked with a DIR-655. At various times they might show a connection above 200 Mbps, and sometimes as high as 270 Mbps. However, this is very misleading. In truth, with a 270 Mbps connection reported, the actual usable speed was more like 50 Mbps. I could never stream HD, only SD video; and that was iffy at times.

I solved that problem by eliminating the two DAP-1555 boxes and replacing those links with Motorola NIM-100 MOCA boxes. I bought three of these on eBay and am very pleased. They link through the cable TV cabling. They provide a fairly solid 100 Mbps link that's really 100 Mbps. I can stream HDTV now!

Thank you, Bullseye2298 and CrunchyDoodle, for your assistance!  You've both been most helpful.

Cheers!
