Recover passwords from backup configuration?
« on: December 20, 2015, 10:12:50 AM »

Like a complete tool (which is like me), I seem to have failed to record my passwords (which is not like me) when I last configured my DIR-645.  None of those I expect I might have used are getting me in, not even the blank 'it forgot your custom password' default.

I did, however, take a backup .bin backup after the configuration, back in April of 2015.

So, two questions:
  • Is there any way to extract the passwords from the configuration backup?
  • If I have to fully reset the unit in order to set the passwords, is there any way to restore from the backup config without losing the new passwords?  I.e., without putting me back to where I am now, configured but password-challenged?
  • And, semi-related, the front page is forcing the Admin username.  How can I tell it to use a different one?

Thanks!!!

No.

I think if you restore the config file, the PW should be blank as I saw before that restoring the config file, the saved PW is not used.

D-Link routers only support Admin and some support Guest.
