If I setup the DHCP, and UPnP will that effect any of the computers/laptops in the house? Will I need to do anything with them?
I am the only one in the house who messes with the Internet/router, but I'm no genius with this stuff, lol.
I just want to know so I can have a heads up if everyone is goin to complain or not.

DHCP and uPnP should already be enabled...
It's recommended to use reserved IP addresses ON the router for all devices...

Ok I'll try that as soon as I get home.
I always wondered if there was a way to reserve ip's for specific devices.
Thanks.

Ok i just did the reserve ip and i tgink the router took a **** because it went to reboot and now wheb you try to connect wirelessly it says authentication failed, or it just wont connect. I tried reseting to factory defaults, but it still doesnt work. The wired lan connections work, but nothing wireless. Im on my way to walmart to buys some more routera because i apparently am not supposed to have a working one

Bought a cisco EA6500 as well as a belkin AC1800.

But i did like my d link, so if anyone has any clue whats wrong with it, or just get it replaced?

Did you reset or reboot the client devices?

Honestly, I've never had any issues with this router and the configuration there of, including wireless...it's worked well.

I recommend testing Single mode N, WPA2/AES only, Chnl Width Auto 20/40Mh on 2.4Ghz...

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

Well I'm getting the dgl 5500 replaced, but I got my Cisco to work well, only problem is I don't think that 25mbs Down and 5up is enough to run 2 xbox's. I am fine, but as soon as my gf goes to watch Netflix, I lag really bad. Is download speed the issue?
Also just like the dlink and other Cisco, the laptops keep dropping connection every hour or so. Any fixes for that?
I was looking for solutions and one said that if their are multiple wifi connections around(there are 5 around me) that I should put the channel on a specific frequency, rather than auto. It said this is a common problem with dual band routers. but I'm still having issues with laptops dropping out.

I was also wondering what's the limit for the dgl 5500 for MBS up a and down? Because if the Internet speed is the issue, I'm goin to get 105down and 10up. I will also need a Motorola sb6 series

I saw your Xbox post on the Xbox Forum I think? Anyway the Dgl 5500 with streamboost enabled should make everything run smooth. I don't think your 5500 is faulty if i caught it right your using the old modem i had a few years back it was a POS. It would crash out all the time. Look on the back if your if it's docsis 2.0 it won't handle your speeds. You need docsis 3.0!
Go to WM and buy the Motorola Sb6141 modem come home connect it call your cable provider and give them the mac address from the new modem.
Then if you still have your dgl 5500 connect it to the modem. Only have your PC and modem connected to the router. (this will help with reserving the ip addresses in a later step)
Reboot Router with factory defaults. Then go into streamboost setup page uncheck ABE then run the bandwidth test.
If it comes back wrong (not close to your isp speed) then put it back at 100.00 and 10.00 reboot router  again then test again within streamboost. It should be right if not then just type it in.
Then go to your network page at the bottom you should see your pc with the ip address 192.168.0.100 on the left side there is a button that says reserve (click it) the boxes right above that will fill with that info. You can change the name to something like my pc or whatever so you know the device.
Then connect one device at a time after (phones xbox's whatever)
Repeat the last step after every new connection and name it.
So this way you know for example that your pc is at ip 196.168.0.100 your next is a Xbox and it's at 192.168.0.101 so on for each device so you can keep track.
Once every device is connected go to the  priorities page and put each device the way you want. Save.
(note) I like my Xbox One up top at 1 followed by each other Xbox and devices.

.
Back to what i said at first. If the modem you have is the one i had kinda looks like a spaceship and stands up it's one that i had my isp told me it cant handle the speeds and to upgrade to docsis 3.0 cable modem.
Your isp may have one. ( A docsis 3.0 cable modem)
Charter my isp did i used it for awhile it was ok but i suggest just to buy your own. That way you know exactly what you have. An some isp's charge a fee for renting a modem i'd check your bill. Yet another reason just to buy your own modem.

If you need any help I can get on my xbox and chat to help you out. I'll also keep an eye here for any questions.

Vaultoverseer knows how I role. All I do is work and all I want after work is to come home and play some Xbox, so I don't care how much it cost, I just want it to run correctly.

Overseer I will go to Walmart after work today and get a new sb modem. I am also goin to try to get my dlink replaced ASAP. But keep in mind that the Cisco ea6500 has all these features as well and when I set everything up like I would have on the dlink, my nat was open. But, since my down speed is only 25mbs, I had to priorities my xbone so it always gets at least 15000kbs or 15mbs, so it doesn't lag.

This brings me to my next point, I am getting Comcast burst Internet package with 105mbps down. Which is why I must by a better SB modem. The SB 5101 only has a maximum of 35mbs down.

So it is Easter and my ISP will be closed, so I will call them Monday, and get them to activate it.

If you want to add me on XBL my gt: "Full BASS Drop". Because I have 24800 watts in my truck. Lol

An SB 6 series modem would be recommended. I'm enjoying my 6180.  ;D

Nobody carried the sb6141 I was told they are becoming obsolete. Most places told me they were replaced by netgears. They did however order me a SBG6580 which is bridge able.

I also got my dlink replaced.

I actually got everything working both with the dlink and the Cisco.

I still only have 25mbs download speed, but we are upgrading to 50mbs in a few days.

I never used to have issues with lagging games on my 360, but I guess the Xbox one uses more bandwidth.

I can run my xbone on 25mbs but it takes 15-20mbs out of the 25mbs. This means if someone is streaming something, I lag, and quite a bit. This is where the Cisco came in handy. In the Cisco setting for prioritization you can give a minimum amount of bandwidth that is always goin to the devices on the priority list. So I put my Xbox one on the list and set it to always have 15000kbs, and since then I haven't had an issue.

The down side to doing this is it only left the rest of the house with 10mbs, and this is why we are upgrading.

And the issue with the laptops, I have solved as well. I had to turn off the 5ghz band, also if you have a guest network, disabling that can help, and also changing the frequency-channel of my 2.4ghz from auto to a static channel. (I needed to try several channels before I found one that worked).

I will be getting my SBG6580 tommorow(I hope). I will call my ISP, and have it set up and upgrade my plan. Then all I should have to do is put the modem into bridge mode, which I have been reading a lot about as well. I would use the internal router/wifi but I bout a Cisco E1000, Cisco EA3500, CiscoEA6500, And a DGL5500. So I might as well use them, I'll probably sell the rest online to get some money back.

Glad you got it working better.

Let us know how it goes when you get the higher ISP services. It will be a good test to run the 5500 as the main host router and AP to see how it works with the new speeds.
