Can't setup DIR-505 in Router/AP mode... other modes do work
« on: February 12, 2014, 04:00:55 AM »

Good day all

I purchased a DIR-505 for it’s Access Point features.
That will be my only use for it!

I unpacked the device, put the switch on “Router/AP”, plugged it in the wall and connected it with a wired cable to my home network.
On the Ipad, under settings, I found the new Wifi network and selected it. Then I had to enter the password which I have on the little card… however refused… it does not accept it and I get no internet…
Bad start… but no worries, let’s set it up via my pc first…

So deconnected my PC from the internet, and used that cable to hook the DIR-505 to my PC (still in Router/AP mode).
In web browser, typed “http://dlinkrouter.local.” However I get nothing on the browser… nothing found. So no way for me to setup the DIR-505 in AP mode..
When I switch to Hotspot or Repeater mode, I do get the access to the setup menu via my PC. It just doesn’t work via Router/AP mode… which is of course the mode I need…

I tried to update FW, reset, … but nothing seems to help…

What do I do wrong??

Link>Welcome!

I believe when in AP mode, Try setting your wired LAN PC to a static IP address of 192.168.0.49/255.255.255.0 then connect to the 505 at 192.168.0.50 to configure it for AP mode.

3rd Party Security Software Configurations
  • Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
  • Turn off all devices accept for one wired LAN PC while testing.
  • Disable any downloading client software managers, i.e. Torrents or similar.

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Hello FurryNutz

Thanks for you reply.
Unfortunately it did not work... I still don't get access to the setup screen of the Router/AP function.

Any other tips or tricks that could help me out?
