DIR-885L revA. firmware 1.12 (2017 model) and is working perfectly fine.
I have one weird problem which is difficult to reproduce.
It was running smooth for 6 months, then I added these last week July 15 to use 2.4ghz:
dlink dsp-w215 revb
dlink 942L reva
tplink hs100
apple tv3 changed to use LAN instead of wifi
TOTAL wifi device on 2.4Ghz = 20 ( including new above ). No one uses torrent.
Now, once or 2x a day, the 2.4Ghz will go dead, not sure if overheating, the 5Ghz band is still working,
I can access the router remotely via mydlink app and do remote reboot and 2.4Ghz is up again.
As a partial solution, I have moved those devices capable of 5ghz to use the 5ghz band of 885L.
Then, I moved other 2.4Ghz to the wireless repeater dir-868L. Total device on 2.4Ghz band is down to 14.
Anyone encountered similar situation wherein the 2.4ghz went silent?
Also, any suggestion for troubleshooting? I have the 2.4ghz to use channel 1.

So you have SC enabled or disabled?
Try channel 11?
Are there other wifi neighbors using channel 1,6 or 11?
Try setting the power output from high to medium.
Has the 2.4ghz radio stopped since you moved off some devices from it?
As a general precaution, I always keep one of these under my router:

the SC is always disabled. changing channel for 2.4 doesnt help
the 2.4ghz still stopped after moving devices out. :(
what helped is changing the power output from HIGH to MEDIUM and the router is stable for 5days now.
the farthest device (960L) was still able to connect even with MEDIUM power. 8)
I will get some small laptop cooler as the CPU temp or wlan card temperature can be high. Thanks Furry
I don't want to use dd-wrt just to see those cpu temperature. Here's the screenshot of 885L running dd-wrt

Just curious, can you enable SC and set Medium power at the same time?

I have separate SSID, e.g. Biberhome-2ghz and Biberhome-5ghz.
ok, I tried your suggestion and enabled SC(smart connect) and set wifi to "Biberhome".
It was good I can scan these wifi name:
Biberhome (in 2.4Ghz)
Biberhome (in 5Ghz)
Guestwifi (in 2.4Ghz)
Guestwifi (in 5Ghz)
Also, the router steered some to 5ghz capable device to actually use 5ghz band and I was amazed :)
But then, I need 2 separate guest SSID name and enabling SC only allows 1 guest SSID.
Disabled SC(smart connect) and left the same SSID name for 2.4 and 5ghz band.
Set power to HIGH on both band and the 2.4 never died for more 5 days. This is with help in manually re-assigning other gadgets to 5ghz.
My final setup: (firmware 1.12)
1. SC is disabled (will enable it if new firmware allows multiple SSID or different guest SSID, or if I have another AP)
2. MAIN SSID: Same SSID name for both band. Power levels are set to HIGH. MEDIUM (HIGH is working, I just like MEDIUM)
3. Guest SSID: different for 2.4 and 5ghz
4. Scheduled Daily Reboot at 4AM
5. QOS is off, Quick VPN is enabled but rarely used.
6. Another 868L repeater connected to 5ghz.
As of this writing, router is stable. I will put a mini laptop cooler once I visit the place next month
UPDATE: 27AUG - Router Still rock stable at firmware 1.12
Just curious, can you enable SC and set Medium power at the same time?

Do you have Guest Zone enabled?
Test with power set to Medium as a test as well.
SC will not support multiple SSID names. The reason for SC is to have it do all the handling of devices for one SSID name.
Keep us posted if the router seems to fail again...
