Title: LOOPBACK test of port forwarding desired; doesn't work with DIR-813 router
Post by: JohnPeter on November 20, 2015, 08:50:48 AM
This might be called a "NAT Loopback test" and if so, might be prevented by design of router.   I have an old Netgear N300 that allowed it.  What I want to do is use an internet browser (Firefox 42.0) and put my real IP address:PORT_NUMBER in the address bar of the browser... and have D-Link DIR-813 router verify that I have installed port forwardings, with a full loopback test.

Since I have indeed correctly installed forwardings for various ports of interest, I'd like my browser to bring me to the log in screens of various gadgets that exist on my INTRANET (192.etc).    All such attempts are blocked.

I have gone to a geographically remote location and logged into these same various gadgets, easily.   So I know the ports forwardings work.

Still, I like to do loopback tests on this point... using, as I said, the IP address of my "street location"  ...

Is there a way to configure DIR-813, to allow this?   Even temporarily?   Firewall inside DIR-813??  This has nothing to do with my computer's firewall; this loopback test worked until I replaced my old Netgear router with the new D-Link router.

Thanks

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Some DIR series routers do not support Look Back. I don't have this model router so I don't know for sure. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Thank you for your prompt response.    I will try to answer your questions.   However, I have solved my problem by thinking outside the box.   I realized that I might use my smartphone and 3G cellphone connection to log into my various "boxes"  that exist on my INTRANET; i.e., that lie behind the firewall/router interface between my INTRANET and the world's INTERNET.    Thus I was able to verify port forwardings... but not by actually using loopback.

Your questions, with answers taken from stickers on router's "AC 750 Wi-Fi Router" cardboard container:
What Hardware version is your router?                    H/W Ver. B1
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded?         F/W Ver. 2.07             and confirmed by viewing router's status.  F/W dates to July 22, 2015.
What region are you located?      soCal USA

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?              Cable; Charter
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?        I do not know

Would need to check the ISP modem model # if possible. Were checking to make sure theres no router built in there.
