Title: DIR-626L low speed
Post by: Reylo on November 23, 2013, 04:03:03 PM
Hi.

After ditching a old wireless router (because it didn't download with specified speed, and crashed a lot), I recently bought a DIR-626L hoping i wouldn't have speed problems anymore and that the router will download with full speed and not by half (compared to the old one).

After some browsing/gaming/streaming, internet speed drops dramatically to ~800Kbps/sec, when my normal download speed is at ~9MB/sec. Keep in mind that i'm referring to the wired connection and not on wireless. Sometimes it recovers after a short period of time of not using the internet that much but when it doesn't recover that easy, i have to power it off and on (restart function from the router's menu doesn't fix the problem). For some reason, when this problem occurs upload speed is higher, about 2MB/sec

Hardware Version: A1     Firmware Version: 1.03

I really hope i can fix the problem because it's really frustrating to know that i bought a new router just because i have low speed problems with the old one and i'm faced with the same issue.

Thanks in advance.

  • What region are you located?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
  • Was the router working before any firmware updates?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

ISP: RDS & RCS, Bucharest, Romania, Cable connection, PPPoE. Factory reset done (didn't fix the problem). Router worked the same way before and after factory reset and firmware update.

Normal speed  (upload speed should be the same with download speed, not sure why it doesn't here)

After browsing/gaming/streaming:

I did the steps provided but to no avail.

did /can you bypass the router when the speed slows down to confirm it's the router and not your ISP

Yes i did. Same issue. Weird thing i discovered is that on torrents it reaches the maximum speed. But when downloading through browsers (tried chrome and firefox) it still doesn't work properly.

Are the torrents going while your trying to download using the browser?
