Title: There are some bugs I am experiencing.
Post by: spiderblack805 on August 06, 2013, 12:47:47 PM
I Pre-order my DGL-5500 had it since day 1. There are some bugs I am experiencing. It seems that the automatic bandwith detection does not properly defect the speed I have. I get 50 down and 10 up. My ISP is comcast. Also I randomly kicks off all wireless devices and the medai server does not work. I had the DIR-857 and hod no problems of this kind at all. I think the bug is in the automatic bandwith detection because it would cut my service down and I can only download at 10mb and up load 2mb with constant internal server errors. I plug back in the DIR-857 and my network and speeds are back to normal. I'm really excited about the DGL-500 but there are some bugs. My experiences and testing the say the bugs have a lot to do with the auto bandwith detection. Its not detecting the coreect bandwith and its discontecting all other devices. Plus the media server does not work at all. I don't want to return this device and I trust that dlink will also see those bugs and fix them with a solid firmware update.

Also, what happens if you disable ABE and SB?

Please give more details of the media server problems as well here. Like devices you are using. Do they have reserved IP addresses? Are they wired or wireless? What kinds of media are you attempting to view with them thru the 5500 router?

What happens if you disable Auto Bandwidth estimation and or Streamboost?
Please give more details of the media server problems as well here before posting in the Feature Request and Bugs thread. Like devices you are using. Do they have reserved IP addresses? Are they wired or wireless? What kinds of media are you attempting to view with them thru the 5500 router?

Let see if we can help you narrow down the problem please.

If auto bandwidth estimation is off and SB is on, I get the correct speeds and vise versa. It seems they both can't be on at the same time. As for the media server is doesn't show up on any of my 3 laptops, playstation 3 or the xbox 360. The DIR-857 always showed up on all systems before. Understand I appreciate you trying to help trouble shoot but I know this router is not working as it should. The DIR-857 was excellent and I know Dlink puts out quality stuff but this router is a bit buggy. If SB and auto bandwidth is on the router has internal server errors and drastically cuts my bandwidth down. With auto bandwidth estimation off and SB on I get my speeds, no internal server errors and all devices connect. As for the media server it doesn't show on any devices that can access a media server. Now I have no problem mapping my network drive but nothing shows up on my playstation 3 or xbox 360 as a media server being present.

You have to understand that trying to compare this router to the 857 is a bit unfounded as they have totally different internal HW and FW components. So you'll need to be aware of that.

Sometimes coming out with new routers can always present issues out of the gate. Even with the 857, we saw some problems.

Please post in the DGL-5500 StreamBoost and ISP Speed Problems thread if you haven't already with details of your speeds there and results of using SB and ABE if you haven't already.

Please post here any more information about how you have set up Media Server problems and what USB drive you have connected to the 5500. Size, Mfr and model of the drive.

Please be patient as D-Link is aware of the problems and is reviewing the situation.

Thank you.

I appreciate all the help and knowlege. You think its a possibility that certain ISP and the equipment they use maybe the issue? The DGL-5500 is an absolute beast with ABE off and SB on. AS for the hard drive I have connceted for my media, I'm using a 256 GB samsung SSD 840 Pro with a Patriot Gauntlet II USB 3.0 Drive Enclosure. When mapped as a newwork drive it works great but doesn't show up as a media server on the network.

At this point, could be anything however we are thinking it has to do with just ABE function for now. D-Link aware of and and I presume are looking into it.

Do you have another USB drive, even a small flash drive that you could test?
What format is the 256Gb drive in? NTFS for FAT32?
I realize that it works on the 857, could be something different on the 5500.

The encloser is NTFS formatted but I do have a few thumb drives that are FAT32 that I can test out. I'll let you know the results. Have you heard anything from other users about any media server issues? I would love to hear others input on this. I remember the DGL-4500 didn't have the media server option but was still great at handeling an attached drive and networking it.

Please test using FAT32 and a few files and see what happens, if those does appear then could be a problem...

Alright, I tested the media server using a 4GB thumb drive made by scan disk with and mp3 music file and a mp4 video file. Now if I map it as a network drive all the folders pop up. Now lets say I turn on my xbox 360 so I can access the files via media server, nothing shows up. Seems to me that the media server function was not included initially. DLNA certification on this bad boy will go well I think. This router seems strong enough to stream media from an attached hard drive as a media server and handle all the internet traffic too. I might be in the minority that plays a lot of game and also stream media in house from a USB hard drive.

Here is a bug or not??? I have noticed that when I log into the5500 GUI, that my network mapping cannot be seen......at all!!! :o I reboot and it is all visible. I have a Dlink DGS-108 8-port switch connected to the DGL-5500, could that be causing  the problem????

Try using the 5500 with out the switch in line and test?

Someone reported that enabling or disabling ABE sometimes causes the devices not to be seen. I've noticed that sometimes it just takes a while for them to populate as the router is processing and takes longer than expected.

Let us know...

Yep , exact same problem, wasn't until the reboot everything was viewable and "normal". Happened twice for me.

Can either one or both of you post this in the Features Request and Bugs thread please.
