Bittorrent Support
« on: July 19, 2014, 09:41:18 AM »

Hi

I am using DIR-655B1 with FW version 2.05. Recently one of my nephew started to use bittorent in his room and I noticed we all kicked out from WLAN once he started. After a while, router seems to be freezing (all lights are ON). After that router seems rebooted by itself.

May I know how many concurrent sessions can this model router support? Can this router able to handle such P2P application in network (either LAN or WLAN)? Which FW version is recommended to handle such P2P sessions?

I am using a fiber line with 300MPBS.

Thanks in advanced....

You need to set up QoS rules and set his device up with low priority, say 200 and set up a different rule for ALL other devices for a priority of 128 to begin with then maybe step up to 50 if needed.

You can see an example here:

I think the QOS is not the right solution for them problem. QOS bandwith handling is limited. My inet speed are 20d/3u. QOS can not handle this. The possible right solution is limiting the download and upload speed on side of the torrent client.

The following configuration will allow multiple computers behind the router use BitTorrent.
Step 1: Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password.
Step 2: Click on Advanced and then click Applications.
Step 3: Create a new entry:
 •Click Enabled.
 •Enter a name (BitTorrent).
•Next to Trigger Port, enter 6881 in the first box and 6999 in the second box.
•Next to Trigger Type, select TCP.
•Next to Public Port, enter 6881-6999.
•Next to Public Type, select TCP.

Thank you for posting additional information.

We can only presume that either method may work. However we don't know his ISP speed package so QoS method may or may not work, however I believe it should as he's attempting to control the bandwidth usage on one particular PC. The PC isn't having a problem with the connection with BT rather he's trying to limit the usage. QoS would be good for this.

Ya, we know there is a 2Mb soft cap on the uplink in QoS. Thats not going to be fixed.  :-\
