Dir-815 Port Forwarding problem.
« on: June 14, 2014, 06:10:54 PM »

So for a long time I've tried and tired port forwarding with multiple methods and only recently I've done everything I can possibly think of. I have a DIR-815 version A1 with firmware version 1.04. Can anyone help me successfully forward the TCP and UDP port 7777. Thank you!

I am located in North America, Canada, Quebec, Montreal.
I have a wired connection to the router.
I have a DSL service.

I'm not sure what Mfr. is but I'll write everything that's on the modem:
CAMATEL
NetVito 5300
Ethernet ADSL Modem
RATING : 12VDC, 500 ma

I think I'm using dynamic WAN IP because on the D-Link page, the status tab tells my my WAN IP.
I have ~14mbps Up and 0.29 Down.

  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on Router

Also is uPnP disabled if you set up Port Forward rules?
Also try using Virtual Server instead of PF....

Alright so, the modem is a standalone modem and the WAN page doesn't have a 192.160.0.# IP.
Also, I don't know how to, for example, use the DMZ for the modem. By that I mean, I can use the one in the D-Link Advanced section but I don't know how to access the modem's version if that is what you mean and how can I see what my my router's DHCP IP is? And, what is and how do I change the DIR router's IP?
uPnP is enabled and if I can't find a way to fix this I'll try the Virtual Server option. Thank you for helping!

EDIT: I quickly tried the Virtual Server but the ports still are closed.

When you are checking for port status, you are actively using the ports when checking status? If your not actively using the ports then you get a false negative result.

Also is uPnP disabled if you set up Port Forward rules?

Does the modem have a DMZ feature by chance or is the modem bridged?

The modem has a DMZ option and I got it to be setup in bridged mode. uPnP is enabled on the router and modem while port forwarding. I'm trying to use the port while testing and it is still saying it's closed, could you clarify me on which IP I should be forwarding on? When I use the 192.168.0.# from my computer the settings apply but my public IP doesn't work, I'm not sure which one it should be exactly.

Try disabling uPnP with your PF rule enabled.

The IP address of the PC or device needs to be used in the PF rule, no the Public IP address that the router gets from the ISP modem.

Well, once set up in bridge mode and got it work work normally. I simply tested out what you told me: actively use the port while testing. I also enabled uPnP on router and modem. And pretty much once in bridged mode it worked.
