Title: Won't connect to wireless router-RESOLVED!
Post by: bradlove on April 12, 2012, 06:47:52 AM
Hello,

I Just picked up my MovieNite box last night and went to hook it up. It detected my routers SSID fine but it simply wouldn't connect to it.

My router is wireless G, and the MovieNite is wireless N, but that shouldn't matter since N is supposed to work with G and B.

I thought that maybe it was the security, so I disabled the security on my router and tried to connect and it still wouldn't.

Any thoughts? Should I exchange it for a new one?

Thanks.

I strongly recommend purchasing a Wireless N router. Even if you connect via Wireless G, streaming HD video will choke on the limited available bandwidth  (i.e. you will likely encounter buffer under-runs, freezing video, and choppy video/audio).

The cost of Wireless N routers is quite low and all of your wireless N devices will greatly benefit from the increased range and additional bandwidth.

is there a more logical answer to this?

I'm thinking something is broken. It should connect to a G router. Even if performance is not perfect, it should still connect.

What Host router do you have? Make and model #?
Not sure if some of these suggestions apply to your particular host router however might try:
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

If you turned off security and it still wont connect, I might try a different host router and test. Or take the 310 to a friends or family's place with a different router and see if it connects there. Then you'll know.

I took it to a friends house, as you suggested. It worked there. I did the firmware update. watched some netflix. I got it back home and it worked on my router as well. I'm not sure if the firmware did it or what? but, I'm not complaining. This little box is great! Thanks for the help!
