Unable to get out to the internet
« on: December 31, 2011, 07:47:41 AM »

Newbie warning :-) I have installed the DIR-645 using my tower and am able to connect wirelessly with one laptop (Toshiba) but not another (Compaq) both have Vista Home as the operating system.   I have followed the instructions for connecting wireless clients using WPS on both laptops.  The Toshiba connects, the Compaq does not.  The Compaq will show that it is connected to the DIR-645 but only as "local" .... even when I connect it using a cable (after turning off the wireless of course).  Using the same cable, I have been able to connect the Toshiba to the internet.  The Compaq can connect to the internet using other wireless connections.  What did I miss?

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Make sure your PCs are supporting of wireless modes and security type of TPIK or AES.
