Wireless network key is not correct.

Hi all,

This is a brand new problem, as I've had no issues so far with this router.

All firmwares are up to date.

Just today, I tried to connect via wireless and it says it cannot connect to the network. I have the Network Diagnostics window appear and it says "Windows cannot connect to "***"  (where *** is my ssid);  The wireless network security key is not correct."

This is impossible, as I haven't changed it at all. I checked within the router settings, network key is the same.

Any clues?

This is on Vista Home Premium.

Um...out of curiosity...how are you verifying the network key in the router settings when the key is usually ******?

What have you used, WEP, WPA, WPA2?  It is entirely possible that someone has broken your security and changed your key without your knowledge.

It's always recommended you change your key occasionally to prevent it from being broken into.

IF you can make it too figure 4 in this link it will show you how authentication is setup for a connection the the Vista side. This may be stopping you from getting connected.

This usually comes up if you have connected to a wireless network and then the wireless security setting change on the network. The easiest way to resolve this is to remove the network from your preferred list then reconnect to the network.

To remove the network from the preferred wireless networks:
Start -> Connect To -> Open network and sharing center -> Manage wireless networks
Click on the network that is having problems
Click Remove, Click OK

Close all your windows and try to connect to the network normally.
