Yeah thats understandable.  There are easily thousands of independent connections.  Again tho, it is weird that it used to work just fine with even more.  In a case like this, I would think that instead of failing and rebooting all together, it would at least drop some connections, or have some packet loss or something other than basically die, ya know?

I can almost promise that using a single wired and single wifi device, itll work just fine, but thats not really a solution ya know?

So can we play devils advocate for a minute?  Lets assume that 1 wired deivce and 1 wireless device makes everything hunkydory.  What are my next steps?  Am I just going to be limited by this router even though I wasnt before?  Is the hardware just going bad and thus not able to handle a heavy work load anymore?

Not trying to be rude, and I appreciate your quick responses to my questions, i'm just curious what my next step would be after this test...Or is it just kind of a futile test to tell us something that doesnt help all that much?

EDIT:  I should mention that I bought this device (according to my Amazon order) on September 10th 2015.  So it isnt even a year old.

Ya, may have been working before or may have been a certain situation when you had all of your devices connect. Still to early to tell.

Not being rude. Questions are recommended always.  ::)

Next step is to graduate adding devices, 1 at a time and try to see when and if the problem appears. Take notice of what was connected and what you were doing with the devices or other devices while you were adding devices when the router reboots.

Possible that this maybe a wifi issue and that many wifi connections maybe a cause. I only know of one other user on this forum with this router and he has maybe a few less wifi devices however hasn't said anything to me about any problems with reboots with this. I'll have him review this and add any information to this thread that maybe of help.

Okay cool.  Thanks for your patience.

I had everything powered off, and just as a quick preliminary test, I powered up the 12 windows tablets and started to get them running.  Router restarted almost right away.  So there is definitely something wrong with the wifi, and it doesnt appear to be device numbered.  I had all of the cell phones off for this.

I'll continue with the test as you have requested, and will keep you posted.  But having the router restart with only 12 wifi devices running for 30 seconds doesnt bode well.

Ok, one more thing to do after testing,
Lets do a full manual installation of v1.09 FW using this process to install it:
Emergency Recovery Mode
Use IE11 or FF for this..and disable any PC security SW and security browser Add-ons.

Okay.  I've done as suggested.  Ive upgraded the routers firmware using the recovery mode, and started with a single hardwired device.  That was fine.  I added a wifi device, and it was fine.

Was.  For about an hour.  One wifi device and one hardwired device, and the router restarted itself.

So its obviousa this thing is busted.  What is my next course of action here, because this is damn unacceptable from a $300 router.  This is unacceptable from a $20 router.

Im beyond pissed off right now.

Its happend 3 more times today.

I have removed the dlink router from my network, and replaced it with a $30 god damn dollar ASUS router which has been rock solid.

What the hell?  Honestly, Im so beyond pissed off right now.  I spent $289.99 on a route rthat touted a LOT of stuff, and has provided none of it, and a crappy interface to boot.

I need a god damned syslog server set up on my computer just to see what the hell is going on with it?  Seriously?  What the Eff.

THis needs to be corrected.  THis needs to be addressed.  THis crap cannot stand.

I want my money back from this router.

Ok, I was hoping that a full on FW re-load might have fixed this however I think the unit is just faulty. D-Link will be happy to get it replaced under there RMA service. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

This issue is not reflecting on the entire 890L line as others have not experienced this issue. I for one and another I personally know are enjoying this router and it does work well. Sorry that you got bad apple. I know that D-Link will get you a good working on soon as you get the phone RMA process started.

Let us know how it goes please.

Were you able to get a hold of D-Link support and ask for an RMA?  ???

Yes sorry, I just sent the router out today.  I had to call them and go through a bit of 'troubleshooting' in which I told them I worked with you and they essentially said "that guy doesnt work for us/cant say anything"

So that was weird.  Also it sucks that you have to pay for it to be shipped back, but im optimistic.

Ya we are volunteers here in the forums.  ::)

Most any Mfr now days has a one way shipping policy. Been like this for years.

Keep us posted on the new one. Should work well. What router are you currently using now?

Gotcha, gotcha.

Right now Im using a $30 router that I picked up from frys the other night.  I've got over 30 devices connected to it, and they all run well, until my wife starts streaming a 4k movie from netflix.  Ugh.

That being said, the $30 asus router management console...INSANELY NICE.  It is quite a nice change of pace from my dir-890L's
fisher price my first router" interface.

Just the ability to see real time logs, real time utilization (both wired, wireless, and internal router spec utilization) is awesome.  And on a $30 router, lol.  Im more frustrated now because it was originally going to be this DLINK or one of the $300 ASUS routers.

Not the first choice that Ive regretted, wont be the last.

Friggin technology.

Ya, the UI seems simplified from the old ui. Some users have expressed there dislike for it. I presume D-Link went with a setup and and forget it kind of line of thinking in regards to it. Kind of makes sense to some degree. I guess there;s a fine balance between not having enough and too much that some advanced users like.

You could hook up the replacement 890L as a wired AP to the Asus router.  ::)

I hope the replacement work well. Does for me.  ;)
