Title: Remote sign in no longer works
Post by: GKL on January 23, 2019, 07:47:39 PM
Up until yesterday my remote sign in worked fine, now only the local access sign in works.  and yes my sign in info is accurate.

Nothing changed on my end, so I thought maybe something changed on the D-Link side of things, anyone have any possible solutions ?  Thanks !

What mobile device and OS are you using?
I can access mine with my iPhone 6sP...
I'll have to check my Android Pad tomorrow from work...

Ok, both my iPhone and Android pad connect from work remotely.
I don't have a windows mobile device to check.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this.

We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

What are you signing in to? Just the app login? Are you getting error messages?

error message says:

"Sign in failed Please check to make sure your e-mail or password are correct (1_2_1_9_9_FFF)"

I am trying to sign in using the "mydlink Lite" app made for windows phones.

Remote sign in worked fine for months till the day before yesterday.

I guess i am confused on remote login vs local. Logging into the mydlink server still requires an Internet connection.

So you connect via WiFi it works, but 3G/4G is fails?

Can you open a browser on your phone and go to mydlink.com and see if you can log in there?

yes, the app gives 2 options, local and remote, even the remote did work thru WIFI when I'm at home but obviously a data connection is used for remote when away from home, I tried remote both ways thru WIFI and data and the remote sign in fails, only the local sign in works now.

Does the remote sign in require going thru the D-Link servers ?   If so, maybe something changed on the D-Link side of things.

Thanks for the help in trying to figure this out, I have to run to the store but will check back later.

Ok just to be clear, you are signing into the app itself, not accessing a specific camera?

If you are able to tap the local and remote tabs at the bottom, you are logged into the app.

Local = Displays only devices on the Wi-Fi network you are currently connected to
Remote = Displays ALL devices registered to the mydlink account your app is signed in with

I believe the app itself is open when I tap on the icon on my home screen, then in the app it has a section for "remote devices" and a section for "local devices"

I can access either of my 2 cameras thru the "local devices" section without any problem.

but when I try to sign into the "cloud" to access either camera via the "remote devices" section I get the error message I mentioned before.

So when you select a camera you are getting this error...

You are not signing in to the cloud. You are already signed in if you are in the app. You are having trouble accessing the camera(s) remotely.

Are there red Xs next to the devices you are trying to connect to?

It won't show the 2 cameras in the remote section until after I sign in (which I can't)

It does show the 2 cameras in the local section, since that section does allow me to sign in.

Since the mydink lite app is having such a problem, is it possible to just use a 3rd party app instead for remote access ?

You can use the mydlink app. You will not need to reinstall your cameras. Just log in with your current mydlink account and all your devices should show up.

There are not separate logins for remote and local.

If devices are not showing up, those devices are not connected to the internet. Reboot the devices and see if that fixes it.

What cameras do you have?

Actually, sorry. The new mydlink app is not supported on Windows devices unfortunately.  I actually have not tried the mydlink Lite app on a Windows phone but looking at screen shots it does look different than the iOS/Android version.

Definitely contact tech support. I believe there was maintenance done on the mydlink servers recently so maybe something got bugged. Reboot (not reset) your cameras and see if they come back up. Also log out/close the app and reboot your phone and try again. Sometimes a relog and/or reboot of your mydlink devices are necessary after maintenance.

The app I have on my windows phone is made for windows phones "mydlink lite" is what it is called.

The 2 cameras I use are both DCS-936L

Both cameras do show up in the "local" section of the app but the app is asking me to sign in to access the "remote" section, but gives the error mesage when I try to do so.

If it is possible to use a 3rd party app that might be the needed solution if for some reason the mydink lite app is no longer supported

I am not sure of any 3rd party apps since I am not familiar with windows phone.  The DCS-936L supports HTTP/RTSP so should work with most 3rd party apps. Some may require you to open ports on your router to the cameras.

I have tried IP Cam Viewer for android. Not sure if there is a Windows 8 version.

Have you tried using browser and going to mydlink.com? log in and see if your cameras show up. Also you have not said if you have rebooted them.

I just rebooted both cameras, not sure why both cameras would have a glitch at the same time though.

I could access cameras thru the mydlink web site on my laptop.

Now while I realize passwords are usually case sensitive, the username/email usually is not, however just in case I changed my email to uppercase in the first half before the @ sign and first letter uppercase after the @ and now I can sign in the remote section, whether the email is case sensitive or the reboot fixed it I'm not sure, but it now works again !

Thanks for your diligent effort to help me figure this out, it is appreciated !

Interesting. The username should not be case-sensitive but maybe a recent update changed that.  I will notify the camera group and let them know so they can verify.

Glad it is working now. If any other issues come up let us know.

Thanks !

Not saying for sure the username case made the difference, I could sign out and try signing back in with the all lowercase like before to see if the error message shows up again but I'd rather not mess with it right now after taking so long to get it working.   Usually I haven't needed to sign in each time as it was saved so I just had to click on stuff.    If it ever asks for me to sign in again I'll try lowercase first just to see if the error message happens again.

I had previously rebooted one of the cameras with no effect, so that makes me wonder if rebooting both of them made any difference.
