Updating Firmware for version A2
« on: June 26, 2016, 07:36:48 AM »

I looked but can't nail down an answer. Just installed an 868L Version A2. All the firmware updates I can find are for A1. DLinks website is a joke. Every link for the 868L takes me to a different firmware version (1.03, 1.09, 1.10) and ALL are for A1 And all give me bad image errors.

Does the update for A2 actually exist?

  • What region are you located?
Where did you get the A2 from?
There A1 for the NA/EU region, B1 or Canada and EU and a C Rev for an Asia region. I haven't heard of any A2s.

Ok, this is a specific model router for a specific service provider. Wow, I didn't know DISH was using the 868L. I wonder for what application. I have DISH. hehe.

Let me check into this and see what I can find out. This maybe something that is handled in a different area other than retail D-Link products and I presume for now, retail FW is not supported and DISH and this A2 have specific FW designs.

Please be patient.

Ok, so I got some info. The Rev A2 is DISH specific and any and all support is handled by DISH, not D-Link. From what they tell me, DISH moved from the 868L to a different model router. So not sure if DISH will support it or exchange it for the new one. If this unit belongs to DISH then I presume they would ask for it back and give out new models. Did they give you this unit or is it apart of there equipment list?

Is this for the Hopper 3 system?

D-Link manufactures special version of some routers models for specific ISPs.

This one here can be identified by the firmware version file:

The DH here signifies "Dish Networks" and there are several others. The firmware  for these units has been customized to support other functions needed by the ISP. These may include but is not limited to options like TR-069, LAN network IP address assignments, Device ID and at time preset WiFi names and password settings and others.

Because of their customizations, the firmware in these units can NOT be upgraded using publicly available firmware code versions since some of these options are NOT available/enabled in the normal firmware versions.

Need an update?  go back and contact the respective company that provided the unit to check for one.  Enjoy!

I got away from this the last few days but wow, great info. Dish's standard router is the D619 but the 868L is their "premium" router.

I guess it's along the lines of Rent-A-Center computers; those models are specifically made for that dealer.

THanks for the info!

And I presume the router belongs to Dish as well as being apart of there Hopper package. I have the H3 system but didn't sign up for the wireless as my Joeys are LAN wired.

If you really want a 868L, you could find a cheap on on fleabay or Amazon.  ;)  Good Luck.

Hi!

I have the same problem.

I have a DIR-868L that is supposed to be for Dish clientes.

The problem is that I bought it from Amazon on March, 2016

Does anybody know how can I upgrade the firmware

I sent a message to the people involved with DISH to see if there is a way to load standard firmware on it. Amazon should never have sold that. It must have been from a 3rd party seller.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

If this router isn't being used for DISH anymore, you give this a try:
Emergency Recovery Mode

Let us know if you see the recovery mode page...

My router is the same as the first guy who started the thread.

It's a DIR-868L
Hardware Version: A2
Firmware Version: 100DHb02 (sticker) & 1.00DH (on the status page)
Region: TX

The issue here is that it appears to be a Dish Router and I bought it from Amazon! WTH?

The router is working fine, just wanted to upgrade to a newer firmware, I don't need to recover it.

Thanks

Thats the think, D-Link sold there router HW to 3rd party vendors and ISPs which used there own developed FW on it. Those parties developed and maintained there own FW, not D-Link.

After there FW is loaded on it, it would have to be updated by DISH. I presume since DISH may not support this any longer, whom ever you bought it from didn't know the differences now did you. So, either the router needs to be sent back or you can try doing the recovery process and this time if you can get the recovery mode screen to come up, it may accept D-Link OEM FW. There is a chance it may not. Up to you.

The firmware recovery process should allow you to put on the regular firmware. That is the only way to get a new firmware on the device. This will remove all your settings so you will have to reconfigure it (see Furry's previous response above for link).

If the router is working I would leave it alone. D-link doesn't offer updated DISH firmware to the public. It is distributed to DISH and they deploy it.
