What were the distances the clients were from the router for the speed testing?

Well… Not sure If I like what I see so far. While disconnects are went away, range still isn’t very good. 15 ft away through 2 walls (just outside of the house) shows all bars but said "no internet connection" if trying to go online. And I agree that 5G seems to be working better in some cases than 2.4G, but... still weak.
Now – about the stick –
1.   Installation. I had tried it with my old MSI with Win 7 and new HP i7 with Win8. MSI installed it well and got all connected and sort of happy. Win 8 was a mess – while after some delays and doing something for a while installation was completed, but told me that cannot run management routine and I need to run it myself.  It worked after I manually got it connected, but didn’t like to detect the stick after I reboot the system. Going to device manager showed yellow exclamation mark near stick’s name. Enabling/disableling didn’t make any difference. Had to uninstall it and install it again. Worked again….
2.   Now – the speed… haven’t seen wireless speed reported anything higher than 173 for HP i7 and 144 on older MSI.
3.   Transferring rate (tested transferring single 2.443G ISO file to/from my Synology server connected via 1G network ) –  all in MB/s:
                                  868L-stick (5G)        868L-stick (2.4G)       868L-Build-in N adapter (2.4G)
MSI-to-server                    10.4                          7.8                                           5.52
Server-to-MSI                    8                              10.2                                         7.18
HPi7-to-server                   11..15                        10.6                                         6.65
Server-to-HPi7                   13.1..12.3                  12.3                                         8.02

Let me know what you think.

MSI was on the table about 2..2.5Ft away (the same room).
HPi7 was about 6 feet away with a wall in-between.

Also experienced again (I think it is all the same nature with previously described problems of when have a full connection to the router and no or very limited internet connection).
2 times during last few days left computer idle for a while (one case overnight and over 5 hours for another case) and when came back I still had connection to the router, but speed - according to speed test - IT was 0.8.....2, while normally I got close to 60.  ... reboot the ROUTER only fixed it...

What version of FW is currently loaded for this test? Shipping?
I recommend testing a minimum of 4-5 feet away from the router.

Ok I swapped out my Dir-868L. Newegg had a deal where you got a free DWA-182, but they made me reorder and send mine back. Strange, but worth a free DWA-182. No restocking fee either. I went and swapped it out since the new one I received had a way newer serial number.

I'm using V1.01 now. Updated almost right after I got mine.

I have "MIXED 11AC and 11N" for 5G settings. CH 165, "Best" for TX rate and 20MHz CH width.

What wireless protocol (N or AC) did you use while performing your 5 GHz band testing?

More specifically, what protocol did you actually test? Was your wireless card connected to the DIR-868L using "AC" or "N" during your testing? The throughput of N vs. AC should be very different from one another.  Also, did you validate the protocol you were connected to on the DIR-868L status page, to ensure you were consistently connected using the same protocol (e.g. validate connection to "AC" during all testing)?

Can you test Auto 20/40/80Mhz?
I think by using 20Mhz only, you limited the connection rates and performance.

By setting it at 20Mhz only you literally cut your speeds in half.

So some reason I had auto scan “OFF” and “channel” selected to 165. With this selection 20MHz is the only option available (grayed out). I’ll try to run few tests tonight.

Please run a test with Mixed Mode settings and Scan set to automatic. The Channel Width should be selectable and available to use and you should see the other Mhz listed.
Let us know know you don't or can't use the Channel Width feature.

Changed it to Auto. Get higher speed.
I was able to run only few testes last night on my MSI laptop.  After driver crashed number of time not very comfortable to use the same driver on Win8 machine.
So – yes it is consistently reporting that connection made as 11AC. 100% signal strength.  The best results I got are 24 from laptop to the server, and 17.2 from server to laptop. And even with good strength – very inconsistent. Even with 11AC all the time… seen 11.. 13 thought the hole transfer, also in some cases dropping to only 2. The stick utility reposted a bit over 700 Mbps during the best transfer. Around 300…370 most of the times.

Please run a test with Mixed Mode settings and Scan set to automatic. The Channel Width should be selectable and available to use and you should see the other Mhz listed.
