DCS 5020L Loses IP
« on: January 17, 2015, 07:10:21 AM »

I have a DCS 5020 L that I have a assigned a static IP to   so that viewing software can find it.    Aftre about two days it appears to go off line .    Power it off and on restores the IP    I have update the firmware   The problem is unique to this camera as another camera from another manufacturer does not have the issues

Suggestion?

Try reserving an IP address through your router rather than a static IP address configured through the camera.

How is the reservation configured on the router?
Can you post a picture?

After the reservation was applied, was the router and camera both rebooted so the change could take effect on both units?

OK the issue ruined out to be with the the java issue with mylink which I used to verify    It appears there is a problem with java and safari which is being dealt with

I complicated the issue in thinking that port assignment was handled by camera as part of Ip   no idea why I thought that... went back the port assignment I had originally made and all is good

now to see if camera continues to remember its IP

Let us know about the Reservation and IP address persistence.

What firmware version are you using? D-Link recently released new FW for the DCs-5020L that addresses Java issues.

Does your router reservation table indicate that the IP address that you reserved is designated for the DCS-5020L's MAC address? I've seen issues like this come up if another device on the same LAN has the same IP address set as static. The first device will keep trying to steal the IP address of the camera, resulting in the camera losing it's IP address.

You may want to try temporarily removing ALL other devices off your network and see if that stabilizes the camera. Next incrementally add one device at a time back onto the network until you see a problem and can identify the problematic device.

Adding to my last post, you never answered my last question, which was "what firmware version are you using?" A new DCS-5020L FW was released recently. If you performed the upgrade (either manually or via automatic push from D-Link), do these problems overlap with the upgrade? If the answer is "yes" I recommend rolling back the firmware to an earlier version to see if that corrects the issues.

the primary problem existed before I did the last fw upgrades about two weeks ago to what was current then   and it continued after

I can not communicate with the camera until i get some one to go to the remote location to reset it

The java issue has never been concern

Again, the primary issue that causes something like this is usually another device that's competing for the same IP address.
