Title: DGS-1210-52MP Voice VLAN issue
Post by: msimmons on April 25, 2019, 01:02:53 PM
I have two sites with DLINK switches. One site is all DGS-3120-48PC switches, utilizing voice vlans w/ OUI to identify my phones and get them onto VLAN 40 for voice. These work flawlessly, 4 switches with trunks setup and a sonicwall firewall providing DHCP on VLAN 40. PCs plugged into the phones passthrough reside on a different vlan and get DHCP from the windows server onsite.

Our other site has some problems. We have two 3120-48PCs stacked, a 3120-24PC connected via VLAN trunks - these work fine. Voice VLAN is setup, global settings are setup, ports are enabled for auto untag and phones plugged in identify and wind up on the right VLAN with proper IPs and computers plugged into them receive DHCP from the windows server.

We bought two new DGS-1210-52MPs and put them on this network. Their link to the 3120 stack is setup via VLAN trunk on the 3120 side and the voice and guest network vlans are tagged on the 1210 side. The guest network part works fine for the WIFI APs. Phones identify fine via the port settings...but don't get IPs from the firewall's DHCP. I've tried turning off trunking just in case and simply tagged those VLANs on the 3120 and 1210 sides, but they simply don't get an IP lease. Anyone ever dealt with this scenario?

Any progress on this?

Submitted a case, configs, wireshark capture etc to Dlink.

Short term? I moved the 1210s offsite to our remote locations where the phone system will be on a flat network w/o vlan or multiple switches. Brought back the 3120 series switches that were out at those sites. Plugged those in this morning, had my phones and DHCP up and running in 10 to 15 minutes. Took longer to physically install the things than it did to config voice VLANs and trunking. Rather frustrating. When Dlink gets back to me, I'll update here in case anyone else runs into this issue and finds this via search engine.

Also, super annoying that the mounting brackets on the 1210s can't be rotated to hang it flat on a wall but that's just a trivial thing that popped up.
