Thanks Patrick, I'll get this to D-Link for review.

How does Win 8 look? Have fun with Win 8.  ::)

Win 8 is Redmond trying to sell phones in a market dominated by Apple and Google, the UI is for a touchscreen and in no way will go mainstream in the business world unless they allow the old desktop. In it's native state, I won't talk like that in public, I got on-board because of the cheap price and the fact it would utilize my processor/machine 100%. In the preview you could just turn off Metro, now you have to hack a little. The new UI was not thought out like Apples at all, I think even on a touchscreen it would be a pain. We are JUST switching to Win 7 at work from XP, Win 8 is going to be another Win ME, a red herring. Unless you are running an 8 core processor I would recommend waiting this one out. On the upside, the only thing it would not work with is Symantec Endpoint 12.1, the install was seamless. When I switched from a 4 core to a 8 core processor on Win 7, not much diff, on Win 8, gaming is crazy smooth/fluid with the 8 core.

The E-mail server is still not working here, PT knows I am overloaded at work so I think he Ccd me on the PM's so I could come lend a hand. I will send you a direct e-mail via PM so you can let me know if you need me to duplicate something. D-Link took care of me during bad times, so no problems helping out.

Wow, 8 core huh? I guess my dual core wont fit then. LOL

I'll wait and see it later. I'm enjoying win 7. Ya, work here just adopted 7 about a year ago. What Vista should have been.  >:(

I'm getting email notifications when people post responses in the forums so it should be working. I would check your forum settings and email settings on your side and see. I presume others are getting notifications as well. Let me know if you seem to be still having problems.

And thanks for the help, great to have expertise help on here.  ;)

Thanks for the update Patrick533! Man am I glad I am not going crazy lol. I just noticed today (I was going to retry 1.03 as I am suffering another issue with a dgs1008g switch losing packets) that 1.04 has been posted on dlink.ca. I will try that and see if they have already addressed the issue. However considering you mentioned that I need to post this in the bug forum, I doubt it has. What exactly would you like me to post FurryNutz?

Kind of off topic of the thread, but I too just installed windows 8 last night. I actually kind of like it which suprises the hell out of me. I hated no start button though, so I Installed start8. It basically turns the desktop back into a desktop like you mentioned. I love it, and it was totally worth 5 bucks. Check it out here (am I allowed to link?) http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/

FurryNutz, any idea what could be causing me an issue with my switch? I have two dgs1005d which work flawlessly, and now two dgs1008g which drop packets like crazy. I isolated the issue with different cables and bypassing the switch and its definitely the switches. Both lose anywhere from 3-65% of my packets. I am wondering if there is a negotiation issue, or maybe something with this dir-827. I am going to try 1.04 and see if that helps. I just got off the phone with senior tech support and am waiting on a call from the network engineer at dlink. Should prove interesting.

Great info, please post your inital post info about this issue in the bugs thread if you would please an any other info that you might gleam from tech support. Copy and paste if you want too.

Thank you.

Do both or just one switch seem to exhibit dropping packets? Swap switches to see. Do you have a spare router to put in the 827s place to test?

Hmmm, still not getting E-mail updates. :'(

I have been on 1.03 for 2 days with no problems, I don't recall which switch I have but it is a newer D-link Gigabit switch(DGS-2208 maybe). I did a couple of throughput tests yesterday, dead on 35 x 4 going through the switch. 8)

That's weird, Canadian firmware, the radio regs are the same for the states/canada. Maybe French Canadian?

Yes, start 8 is what I am using and I removed the Aero theme last night and went back to the stock 8 theme after turning the stupid start picture off, smoother and the clock was the wrong color under the old Aero theme. It actually went to sleep last night after loosing Aero. I tried everything even a computer BIOS update but it was the stupid hacked theme!

I posted in the problems forum for the 827. I have not tried to see if DST is fixed in 1.03 yet, next weekend!

I see that v1.04 is on the CA site however not on the U.S. site...yet. All of the version release notes match up accept release dates, CA seems to get released sooner than NA.

I would be careful, however I presume that v1.04 would work on NA units. Not sure if v1.04 will fix anything accept for the 404 problem and improved IPv6 support. Could give it a try and let us know.

I sent a email to my contact about this issue along with several other problems we'd like to get fixed, including the DST and email issue.  ::) I can tell you that using D-Links NTP server preset with DST checked and set for MST zone on my 857 is resulting in correct time being displayed on the router.  ;)

Let us know what v1.03 does for you Patrick.

Thanks for your input fellas.

Nope, DST is fine. Probably user error.

I just set it without a hitch!

Thx,

Pat

I had E-mail response yesterday, none today!  :'(

Ok guys I managed to do some more troubleshooting. My isp is a wireless radio solution, and the storm last night blew my antenna out of whack. Had to climb the 30 foot tower today and readjust it. According to my ISP service voicemail they are having some network difficulties, my pings are all over the place and when I use the command prompt to ping say google, microsoft or facebook I am having time outs with any setup (including direct modem connection) This makes troubleshooting dropped packets with the switch futile unless I can test locally. I am not sure if I can replicate the error pinging locally.

FurryNutz I did bring up my other DGS1008g earlier today and it was showing dropped packets just the same when using www.pingtest.net. I pulled out my old dir-655 half an hour ago, hooked up the switch and couldnt get it to show any dropped packets through pingtest.net. This is fishy. I am going to triple check all my network cards have up to date drivers. Should I try manually setting the negotiation? When testing I disconnect most of my wired LAN to prevent interferrence. I have  fairly large collection of junk on my network. 1.04 on the dir-827 still had dropped packets with either dgs1008g switch, dgs1005d was still rock solid.

They are supposed to be plug and play auto negotiation, I cant fathom what would be causing the dropped packets. I mean, this is now three of the DGS1008g's I have tried and all do this on my network. I am beginning to think my network hates me. I am going to have to put my tests on hold until my connection stabilizes as any testing I do now may lead to false negatives.

I will however test 1.04 with more access control entries now and see if that has been addressed. I imagine it would be in the release notes if it was however.

Just in case, I tested mine, It goes from this machine>>>>>>switch>>>>>>DIR-827>>>>>>modem.

I will consider that a non problem?
