battery drain on android mydlink lite while in background
« on: June 24, 2015, 12:34:06 PM »

Hi, I am using the mydlinkLite v3.4.7 on a Galaxy Note 2 running Android 4.4.2.   The app itself seems to function fine, but when exiting the app using the home button, it continues to run in the background, and apparently consumes a great deal of the battery capacity while doing so.   Looking at the battery usage, it is on the order of 50-60% and runs the battery down such that I no longer get a full day out of it.   Force quitting the app from the app manager solves the problem.

Are others seeing this problem, and is there a way to mitigate/deal with it other than force quitting the app after each use?   Thanks for your thoughts.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Is it consuming bandwidth?

Why don't you try exiting properly with the back button?

Also are you exciting to the camera selection screen? You should be fine there. If you are home button on the video you're probably hosed.

I don't believe so, but I only inspected my cellular data usage.   I suppose it is possible it was transmitting data while auto-connecting to known wi-fi, but at work I have to authenticate, so I don't think so.

Is that actually more "proper" than using the home button?  I'll give it a try and see if it makes a difference.

You might try disabling Wifi on the phone and then leave the app running and see what happens...

Well streaming video in the background would consume battery power. I've only left mydlinkLite with the Home button on the camera selection page. Never tried leaving with streaming video as i don't want to find out about days usage issue.
