Author Topic: DCS-2132L Continuously sensing motion and recording to SD, why?  (Read 4325 times)

I recently a purchased a DCS-2132L, and I'm trying to set it up to record video to the SD card in a stand-alone environment, only when it senses motion (similar to a trail-cam, only I'm using it indoors).

When I set it up to record video on motion, the camera is continuously sensing motion and recording.  I don't want this, because it's going to eat up the memory card.  In addition, I won't want to paging through hours of video of nothing, just to find the video I'm looking for (which in this case, when there is ACTUAL motion taking place).

Why is this happening?  I don't understand?  I've tried different settings, different lighting, different subjects, day/night mode, different motion windows, different sensitivity, NOTHING WORKS.  This thing just keeps on recording and sensing motion.  I can see the Motion Icon on the live feed, continuously getting triggered on and off, initiating a recording session.

I've turned off the Record Event completely, and simply turned on the Motion sensor.  Again, playing with settings, sensitivity, lighting, subject matter, and motion area, the Motion Sensor is continuously getting triggered (as indicated by the Motion icon in the Live Feed).  In fact, it's getting triggered every 3-4 seconds, for a duration of about 3-4 seconds.

This shouldn't be that FRICKEN HARD.

I have noticed that when I try to enable Motion Detection from the web panel, I see a notification that "Triggered recording is disabled because schedule recording is currently enabled".  I don't know what that means, because when I log into the ADMIN panel via IP session, there are no other events enabled.  here are screen shots, and Scheduled Recording is NOT enabled.

Answering my own question, I believe something happened during the auto-firmware upgrade process when I first setup the camera.  I also noticed that when selecting the motion-view area, the live feed was not coming through.  I thought this was a little fishy.  I reset the camera to default, assuming that the firmware upgrade has stuck, and it seems to be working.  I'll continue to monitor.

I recommend if there is any FW update for a camera, If you can be locally connected and psychically connected to the camera next to a PC with a LAN cable, download the FW update file and apply it manually. Factory reset the camera with IE or FF, Disable any PC security SW temporarily. Apply the FW, factory reset once after the FW has processed then set up from scratch. Once configured and tested, place camera for main operation. Sometimes applying FW manually ensures better seating of the FW.

I did all that.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
