Driver Installation Problems - Win7 x64
« on: February 11, 2013, 06:23:32 PM »

Quick system spec:  Mobo: Rampage II Extreme, 14GB RAM, i7 950, GTX470, Windows 7 x64.

Router: DIR-615 (no issues to speak of, works flawlessly)

I've been using this wireless adapter for quite some time now with no issues... It is a D-Link DWA-552 Xtreme Wireless N Adapter.

Lately, I've been getting very poor reception so the other day I figured i'd try uninstalling the existing drivers and re-installing them.

Now, whenever I try to re-install them, whether I use the Windows Update Atheros drivers and/or D-Link's "stock" drivers I keep getting the same error, which can be seen here:

As you can see, the system is unable to identify the actual card device ID and simply labels it under "Other Devices -- Network Controller" with an error (!) indicator.

As of now, I am using my wired Ethernet connection which works flawlessly, but now I have the eyesore of a cable running thru the foyer of my house into the router office room.

Bascially, each time Win7 x64 attempts to "install the driver" it keeps brining up that error message.  I've attempted to re-mount the card itself, and have re-booted several times to no avail.

It's just quite strange as it's worked fine in the past. I'm wondering if it's a hardware defect of some sorts, or perhaps there's something in the BIOS I need to change?

Any assistance would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Panzer

Link>Welcome!
What region are you located?

Have you downloaded the lastest drivers from the main web site?
You might also reboot the 7 PC and Disable Driver Signing Enforcement by hitting F8 during preboot.
Disable any 3rd party security programs temporarily while installing Drivers.

Thanks for the response my friend..

I am located in the Southeastern part of the US, South Florida to be exact.

I will try the driver signing disabling trick you've mentioned, see if that works.  Any particular sequence of order I should do that in?  Tips, suggestions during installation?

Since I've never had any issues with installing device drivers in the past with my Avast! 5.0 running in the background, I never thought to disable that during install.   I shall give it a go and report back.

Thanks again...

Panzer

EDIT: Okay, just gave it a go to no avail... Same identical thing keeps happening, it simply will NOT install the driver, wether it be the Atheros driver or the Dlink OEM driver... Even tried disabling Driver Signing Security and booting with F8... Nothing seems to work...

Any ideas?

Any status on this?

Can you manually install the driver if you point the Device Manager to the unzipped folder for the drivers?
