Author Topic: How to prevent from reconnecting to ISP when some changes are saved - No Reboot  (Read 2545 times)

I have DIR-615 router HW E4 FW 5.10 region Asia.
ISP offers Dynamic Public IP PPPoE connection.

When I save some changes in the router configuration, that does not require a reboot, I find that router reconnects to the ISP and gets a new IPv4 address.
Is there any way this re-assignment of IPv4 be prevented and restricted to only those settings that require a reboot.

I am trying for IPv6 in IPv4 tunnel thru Hurricane Electric and I suspect that the main reason it does not work is because routers IPv4 changes upon saving the settings in its IPv6 options. This only requires 15 seconds reconfiguration no reboot.

Thanks.

Not with OEM FW. I presume a reboot constitutes a full disconnect and reconnect with the ISP. Usually an ISP will allocate an IP address for the WAN side for a period of time and even though a router will reboot and disconnect and reconnect, if the reboot happens with in this time frame, the IP address on the WAN side should not change depending upon ISP policy. You might check there policy to see if there is a least time frame they use or if not, maybe the change IP address upon any reboot.

Thanks for the reply. I was trying IPv6 in IPv4 Tunnel settings as given by Tunnel Broker. For these settings DIR 615 does no reboot, it just takes 10-15 seconds to  save the settings but looks like it reconnects to ISP and gets a new Dynamic IP thereby breaking the tunnel as the WAN IPv4 changes after Save operation
I guess the only solution for me is to ask for a Static IP from my ISP.
